Favourite Nordic acts an' tracks...?
On Thursday I'm 'djing' at the Lexington after the bill I've curated and been asked to play a set made up primarily of Nordic (Scandinavian/Icelandic/etc) artists. Started putting together my set this morning but not got heaps of names coming to the fore of my mind, what would you like/expect me to crank out?
Also going to run a playlist on DiS, so all suggestions welcome. On my playlist thus far: http://open.spotify.com/user/seaninsound/playlist/6cFLzaTel8U7o91rniqmrR

http://drownedinsound.com/news/4138844-win-tickets-to-ja-ja-jas-nordic-night-curated-by-us
Benni Hemm Hemm - Friðþjófur og Ingibjörg
yes!
my band are playing with them in march. Pretty excited.
added
thank you
you've got a lot of bases covered there!
i'd suggest some Randy. Dirty Tricks is a tune :)
...or cheap thrills
Skweee
Skweee is the Skandinavian's take on 8-bit I guess, they took it and made it loads more fun and added buckets of funk.
Randy Barracuda - Ketamine Strut
http://vimeo.com/6573938
Eero Johannes - We Could Be Skweeeroes
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_XIV5-axhFM
Kotchy - Sing What You Want (Rusko's Skweee Remix)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eNBgwna_rXg
Rigas Den Andre - Distordelle (It's So Easy)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1okQ6_EXVM4
this is why he needs skweee
its the most fun music around!
bass and insanely addictive toy town keyboard funk
the ladys love a bit of that, Ben UFO & Ramadanman dropped a bit of it in the back room at the last Leeds DMZ I went to and it had loads of ladies wigglin.
indeed
this isn't my dj set, this is a playlist to run on the site for people to listen to on their computers :)
Kaizers Orchestra

What, no Efterklang?
Maybe something off the new album?
Some others....The Field, Ef, Kiasmos, even The Album Leaf can get away with it as a lot of his albums are produced/recorded in Scandinavia.
balls
I love album leaf, no idea how my brain didn't think of them first!
Testbild! - My brother The Submariner
Mari Persen - I'm Gonna Get You
Sondre Lerche - Don't Look Now
Three excellent tunes from last year...
or gorgoroth
exactly
I'll pretend that list is in order of greatness too. DARKTHRONE NUMBA WAN BABEH
Needs more Black Metal
and Meshuggah. Could do with stuff from the Rune Grammofon label too. And some Mats Gustafsson. And if Denmark counts as Nordic some Mew wouldn't go amiss either
I was thrown off by the dj set thing too, but if it's one of the ol' spotify playlist jobbies, maybe have a gander at this comp:
http://open.spotify.com/album/7zudtHd92B9NaBOMjKhlqo
(Best of Rune Grammofon, basically)
Jagga Jazzist and Spunk might go down well, methinks.
denmark are part of scandinavia so they are very much nordic. however, mew are fucking abysmal
Thought it would be
Mew aren't my favourite band, but they're far from abysmal. There's a fair few great songs on 'Frengers' (although they've never released anything as good as that album since)
take it from a scandinavian, yeah
jakobínarína - his lyrics are disastrous/this is an advertisement
ida maria - oh my god
animal alpha - bundy
the cardigans - i need some fine wine and you, you need to be nicer
bob hund - nu är det väl revolution på gång
briskeby - wide awake
my little pony - macgyver blues
jokke & valentinerne - hvis jeg var deg
kent - dom andra/kärleken väntar
love is all - agein had never been his friend
mugison - i want you
pelle carlberg - i love you, you imbecile
the raveonettes - attack of the ghost riders
röyksopp
timbuktu - det löser sig
turbonegro - fuck the world/get it on/i got erection
oh and maybe some marit larsen? idk
Oh yep Pelle Carlberg is very good.
Surburban Kids with Biblical Names?
Anything on Labrador records. Here's a spotify playlist someone else made: http://open.spotify.com/user/tomb242/playlist/225LTeiVyK0Imt6JzdmSHT
How the fuck has no-one, not even jimi and his skwee-referencing post,
mentioned Slagsmålsklubben? Sponsored By Destiny is a must-play.
They're amazing.
Other than that, I'd go for Annie, Robyn (and the other kleerup stuff), Jakobínarína and lo-fi fnk.
my skweee knowldge is really lame
Its something I'm gonna adress this year.
I only have a few records really, I'm hoping tp pick more up soon.
Slagsmålsklubben - Sponsored By Destiny
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y54ABqSOScQ

Lo-Fi-Fnk
islaja
Slagsmålsklubben (segway from indie to skwee?)

jj
lake heartbeat
Then please, or embarass, depending on how drunk they are, any ex pats with Roxette, a-ha, Ace of Base and Whigfield.
nothing from Finland.
NOTHING.
