as a punter, which one do you prefer?
Not sure i want to go if its going to be full of hairy DiSers.
...but the answer is ALWAYS The Lexington.
Absolutely shocking cunts running it - crooks of the highest order, pretty much a badger-bite on the ringpiece the London music scene.
pretty un-amazing sound
endless stream of meh bands night in, night out, bnot a cohesive bill in sight
In Kings Cross
Great bookers - always get the most interesting shows (well, along with Luminare)
Top sound, friendly sound man (that Spanish gent with the brown hair)
Sunken dancefloor, good layout.
Amazing bar downstairs selling umpteen brands of lovely world beer and good whiskeys
Not in Kings Cross.
i did enjoy the sound at water rats when i went. it was one of the loudest london gigs i've been to.
but i'll give lexington a shot. am keen for loud.
Seirra Nevada at about £50 a pint and the bar staff claim they are the only pub in London selling it? It basically bankrupted Favours For Sailors.
Or it did a couple of months back, at any rate.
The Lexington is the better of the two venues, the only down side that I can see is they need sheltery things outside for when I have a cigarette. But that is a very minor complaint. And the Water Rats doesn't have them either. So it's not much of a complaint. I'll go now.
..The Eagle does sell it and about £1.50 cheaper then the Lexington.
Good selection of bands, clubnights, booze and sound.
I'd also choose sitting in a bath of cold water with my bollocks strapped into a vice whilst increasingly powerful electric shocks were fired into my penis than the Water Rats.
The government should revoke the smoking ban, but only at Water Rats.
That said, Retribution Gospel Choir and Enablers have both been excellent there.
