I can imagine that there are probably some people on here that will dispute this, afterall, somebody must be buying their records.
Maximo Park - Apply Some Pressure
Its just rediculously infectious, it reminds me of Pulp for some reason.
basically I think they're one of the most underrated bands going. The debut alone is an absolute classic, I can't believe they're so 'meh'-ed about by people.
but I think Graffiti and Books From Boxes are really quite good
that nobody buys their records. Nobody.
by early 00s retro-rock failures The Star Spangles.
They suck balls and the singer can't bloody sing. Great song though. Kick ass video to boot
One and then tha two
Two and then tha three
Three and then tha four
Then you gotta BREEEEATHE
I also loved the beat to this: Rowdy Rahz - Nev-ah. Though Rahz is undeniably awful.
We all know how lazy they are musically, but this is a good, standard pop song.
Plus a few others.
Awful, soft rock, hair metal twats actually release a funny and enjoyable record akin to Warrant's Cherry Pie, say...
And it pains me to say it as I fucking hate Bon Jovi. But check that wicked hair metal chorus.
This is hoe sexist 80s soft metal should be done:
OH YEAH BITCHES
I said 'Turn Back Time' by Aqua.
Megalomania - Incubus
cartoon heroes is much better
the one song is better than the novelty of all wavves songs (making them sound bad on purpose)
barenaked ladies - one week
idiot pilot - a day in the life of a pool shark
horse the band - cutsman
lightspeed champion - midnight surprise
tapes n tapes - insistor
leona lewis - bleedin love
but the idea of Leona Lewis being a 'bad band' made me smile
besides Party Hard.
Because if you had, there's no way in hell you'd make such a mistake.
Second album Wolves is fucking class though.
didn't mean to this this!
is pretty guff in the grand scheme of IP.
*They are actually great band.
the rest of their material is middle of the road insipid enaemic wish wash...
It's far from the best song from No Cities Left. But your description of their material as "middle of the road insipid anaemic wish wash" suggests maybe you've not heard much early Dears.
MOR wish wash is a pretty spot on description of Gang of Losers and of what I've heard of Missiles, and a tolerably harsh assessment even of End of a Hollywood Bedtime Story and the Orchestral Pop Noir Romantique EP. But that description is a million miles from the sound of No Cities Left and even farther from the sound of the Protest EP (the latter having a sound that should embarrass the fuck out of anyone wanting to give the name "post rock" to the likes of Mogwai et al.)
I don't agree with all the people that are saying that they are anything hugely special, I'd say their record is decent though. I certainly wouldn't say they are bad.
i couldn't even get that far
not a problem
my angel is the centrefold!
NAHH NAAHHHH NA NA NA NAHHH
There is a reason that nobody knows their other songs.
I'm not that into Another Girl these days but I can put on Special View or the Only Ones easily.
There's a reason Yo La Tengo covered The Whole of the Law a while back. They wrote loads of great pop songs.
im sure heaps of people disagree but thats ok
Wrong song IMO....Welcome To Paradise innit..?
Hitchin' A Ride!!
(also Oasis had Champagne Supernova and Don't Look Back In Anger)
aw man they are so good tho
that whole album is a beast so is most of Showtime and almost half of Maths+English, I think I Luv U is my fave though. I mean some people would even say Bonkers and Holiday are brilliant! Then you have all his Roll Deep stuff let alone rave and radio sets where he really shined.
the prosecution rests.
(I secretly love DIOFYY)
probably the best song released in the 00s too, trufax
Wouldn't call them a bad band though..
its gotta be Bartender and the Thief
But I think Everlong is 10x better than their other stuff.
when I was fourteen. Was quite sad when they split up, too...
DIdn't they split up like, a week after the album came out?
Wonder what went on THERE?
this song is good though http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I5MqXPYE2P4
Ariel Pink has loads of good tunes. His The Doledrums album is brilliant.
well, it sounds like a decent cribs or strokes c-side
Can't hear my Eyes
Come Out And Play
Shit band - a couple of other average songs on Smash (ie. the singles), but this is their high point by some distance.
No Hero, Genocide, Gone Away, Dirty Magic, Have You Ever...
loads of great songs
I'm going to listen to the Offspring now.
DON'T LIKE NUFFIN AND I LIKE THAT FAAAAAAAAIIIINNNEEEEEE
(not the powerballad)
Offspring spin-off thread soapy?
Blinded by the Sun. Great tune, shit band.
Blinded by the sun is a seriously immense song, shame about the rest of their material...
also winner for most white video.
killing in the name is always far more likely to be played at an indie night, and it used to be a staple at the aussie theme bar in durham - but never any of the metal clubs i frequented
I hate that band but its an amazing song.
Clearly haven't heard 'Favourite Son' and 'Bad Moon Rising'. And most of their catalogue!
but she looked hot in those naked photos
so wrong (but then I'm sure you expected someone to say that). But really? Fake Empire? Mistaken for Strangers? Abel? The Geese of Beverley Road? Slow Show? not even Lit Up?
used to be my favourite when I was eleven or something
God Put A Smile On Your Face
I also like to think of My Chemical Romance as Queen with added emo
if he wasnt a massive gayead this would be one of the most popular ballads of the past twenty years, and covered endlessly on pop idol no doubt;
you know, that one by them that's about relationships.
'Weekender' by Flowered Up springs to mind, if it hasn't already been mentioned.
Never got the James love in the nineties, but this is a tune and a half!
outstrips the rest of their catalogue by about a million miles
YYY - Date with the night
CCS - Art Bitch
Grand National - That one that sounds like Sting's doing backing vocals. Might have 'distance' in the title.
Machine Gun Fellatio - Pussy Town
Gun - Word Up
Magazine - Shot by Both Sides
The Damned - New Rose
Stiff Little Fingers - Suspect Device
Dire Straits - Sultans of Swing
I do believe that most bands can punt out one good song in their lifetime.
Even Status Quo.
because as good as those songs you put are, the rest of their stuff is actually pretty good too
Law of diminishing returns kicks in hard and fast with the first wave of UK punk acts though. Also see Exploited, Buzzcocks, Clash, The Ruts, etc etc.
But this is entirely subjective and my own personal opinion of those bands and their respective output...
