Name a band/ artist you cannot admit to liking publicly for fear of being associated with the fan base who you look down upon.
Let's air our prejudices.
Marilyn Manson / Fall Out Boy / H.I.M. / Gallows / Blink 182 / Good Charlotte to name a couple. Their fans are wannabee emo metal head teen morons who I have no time for. Secretly, I enjoy some of their music tremendously but could never admit it in real life i.e. outside of this forum. There, I've said it.
Is there some sort of hatred for Gallows I didn't know about? I've always thought that they were brilliant.
A band you've never heard of..
from first to last, still remains etc
My Bloody Valentine or any other embarrassing shoegaze.
I've always been a fan of their early work, but Richey Edwards' self-obsessed nature rubs off on the fans a lot and I couldn't really take that.
I'm not an asswipe who judges others based on their taste in music, and I don't care if anyone does so to me.
if you have to pretend to be someone you're not amongst your friends, then you don't really have friends
pitchfork overrated music at 6.8, i would've given it 3.5
fuck the haters, they don't get doo-wop or be-bop, or vocalese, for that matter.
I've been a massive fan of Marilyn Manson since I first heard Antichrist Superstar... besides his last three albums (High End Of Low was good, though), he's always been a really great musician, it's just the shock rock bullshit that puts everybody off.
I maintain that Blink 182 was once a great pop band, it was only that last album (with I Miss You and that shit on it) that ruined the good time for everyone. I also think that Brand New has always been brilliant, even if they'll never reproduce Deja Entendu.
Eh... My Chemical Romance falls on the list of bands I don't like to talk about liking, and I still hold firm that The Black Parade was pretty damn good. Oh, yeah, and the most recent Panic At The Disco album was awesome, too...
I love threads where someone goes, "HEY! Proclaim your love of bands you know you'll get shit on for liking!" because I know some asshole is going to bookmark it and save it for an argument later and say, "Who cares if you didn't like Merriweather Post Pavilion? You think The Used are a great band!" or something of that sort.
And I'll skip forward to ZZ Top as I really should be doing some sort of actual end of year type reporting work.
as they are the best band ever, so fuck you.
but an honest answer to the question would be Paramore, My Chemical Romance and to a lesser extent Jimmy Eat World. I know it's just power-pop and not worlds away from Weezer or Ash who I gladly associate myself with. Yet those silly little scene kids with daft haircuts put me off 'officially liking' it. I know that makes me a bad person, but there we go.
Oh and I also like Snow Patrol, and I know the general perception of their fans are is people who buy one album a year and don't really like music. But there you go
Back to Bedlam was actually ok - The production was spot on and admittedly, I can't particularly listen to it as he irritates me, it's definitely got a lot of merit in places.
Compare it to say, Scouting for Girls, the worst band in the universe, and it doesn't deserve the flack it got.
and i still think all their albums are pretty fucking decent.
