I'm going to listen to Merriment, The Salesman and Bernadette and Dark Developments before bed tonight. All great albums.
Pretty damn strong.
Awful either way, but fingers crossed for him if that's not true.
very sad news.
it doesn't cite any source for their information and his name is given as 'Ceshnutt'. I suspect they're just poorly rehashing the Spinner blog post.
Still, it doesn't look good. This would be a terrible loss
Awful. Bloody hell.
so sad. such wonderful records. i only got 'in the cut' today and it's really blown me away, the most since 'ghetto bells' (one of my all time favourites)
Having had friends tip me off and having known that he makes plaintive, alt-country music very much in keeping with my taste I hadn't listened to one of his records properly until today. Upon hearing the news, I sat down first thing this morning and listened to The Salesman & Bernadette in it's entirety whilst waiting for my folks to get back from church and for Christmas day to begin. The album -in particular 'Square Room' - sounded incredibly beautiful and it's just a shame that it took something like this for me to sit down and engage properly with this wonderful music.
But here's a great set of christmas songs he did (via Chunklet). They have a real bittersweet ring now.
I'm a relative newcomer to his music, but the two albums he released on Constellation were brilliant. I listened to them both in his memory last night; Flirted With You All My Life in particular had an almost unbearable resonance.
RIP. Such a loss.
