Top 2 as expected. They really love The Xx huh.
but it is still a good album, and no surprises with AC even though I reckon its about 8/10 and it loses it a bit in the middle and not 9.4 as pitchfork suggested
DJ Quik made the top 25!
My favorite hiphop producer finally getting a little recognition, maybe like 6 more people will listen to him now.
read down, saw dj quik, hyperdub 5 and micachu, was pleased with what i saw
There are some good moments, but Middle Cyclone is her worst album by a mile, saying Blacklisted and Fox COnfessor were a dress rehearsal is plum mental.
i've been listening to fox confessor loads lately....more than stands up...
''My true love drowned in a dirty old pan
Of oil that did run from the block
Of a falcon sedan 1969
The paper said '75''
that last line kills me
Except for Girls. They're just utter shit.
I don't get the hate for it either, it's a promising debut - Hellhole Ratrace and Summertime are both especially good songs. That said, Big Bad Mean Motherfucker is a bit shit.
i think the NME said it best in their end-of-year blurb, it was everyone's 15th choice and that's why it polled so high. it's just a solid, likeable album, nothing more
They gave it a 9!
For some reason they love it in European publications so far (I need to stop looking at this spreadsheet of all the end of year lists)
a little beauty I reckon
It's a grower!
That's the first time I've seen it in anyone's yearly list yet (except for my own).
I walked out during a Girls show earlier this year.
but I can definitely see how their live show would be awful.
Dragonslayer by Sunset Rubdown?!
What a terrible omission
This one really confused me... Such an awesomely epic album.
Veckatimest placed no. 42 in their greatest albums of the decade (and only MPP placed above it from this year) but it placed 6th on this list. Does that mean people don't feel so strongly about it a few months later?
lists aren't generally an exact science...i admit it does seem slightly odd, but i wouldn't have thought there was a conscious turn in opinion...just the way it filters down...
i doubt they're making some grand statement about how an album could have varying contextual value
I'm also assuming it was the same people voting in both lists.
Pitchfork need to lay off the lists for a while I think. The more they compile the less sense they seem to make (when reviewed in comparison to each other) and the more contradictory they get.
valid point though, cause the decade list doesn't coincide at all with their other individual year lists
but I was thinking that 6th seemed relatively low for an album that was praised to the hilt upon its release.
seems a stretch to me. It just seems like mediocre retro-obsessed bedroom electro
its likeable enough but keeps coming in above albums that I think are genuinely special... don't get it
I so indie
and MPP at no.1 is the icing on the cake. Yawn.
DM Stith??? not even in the honourable mention section. Such a fantastic album- celestial yet dark and impeccably arranged, maybe just overshadowed by the big guns this year. Easily makes my top 10
but my reaction to everything now is just to wonder why no one likes atlas sound quite as much as me.
I've heard 34/50.
Sunset Rubdown omission is a fucking crime. I put that album in my top 3.
