within a reasonable price range
what you think is reasonable and what you want. Turntable?
If money's tight you can pick up some stupid bargains second hand.
just for playing cd's basically. within 100-200 euro/pounds price bracket. or even cheaper? i dunno haven't bought one in years so not sure what prices are like
Good deals to be had on Arcam Alphas (both amps and CD players). Marantz are worth looking at for CD players as well. Speakers wise, is worth looking at B&W, Mordant Short, Mission and Kef. Do your research first though, as most speaker manufacturers sell some awful stuff at the same price as their good models.
what's the deal with upgrading speakers, is that easily done? i have a phillips model, are speakers easily compatible
Though if your amp isn't particularly high-powered there's not much point getting proper massive turbo ones (to use serious hi-fi buff terminology).
Cambridge A1 v3 Amp (£79.95 - http://www.froogle.richersounds.com/product/amplifiers-receivers/cambridge-audio/a1-version-3/camb-a1v3-blk).
A CD/DVD player you like the look of that doesn't cost more than the amp.
Spend the rest of your budget on the speakers. If the store's not busy, and they have a listening room, you should be able to give 'em a whirl and take your pick.
Don't get roped into spending wodge on leads at this price range (*awaits someone who says you should spend wodge on leads).
Second one looks like it'll cover you pretty well
#3 looks worthy of investigation.
OP states "100-200 euro/pounds price bracket" as a "reasonable price range", so yeah, #2.
With the current exchange rate and the way Irish prices are set would it be cheaper to drive over to buy in person and take it back without paying taxes? Is that possible?
Great little quality stereo.
You no longer get the Mission designed bookshelf speakers with it, but it comes with DAB now which is always nice.
