I can't remember being this excited about a show, EVER. Will they play on the floor?! ARGH
I'm really excited about Chops and Drum Eyes. Lightning Bolt have always had at least one iffy support act every time I've seen them but the line up for tomorrow if poifect.
Have you heard Earthly Delights yet? I bought it on Monday night, my God is it good.
and this past weekend in minehead. these have been the first times in about 10 years i think, personally i much prefer it
There's also a degree of responsibility if you're right at the front. Like, you have to make sure people aren't shoving forwards causing others to fall into the drumkit or whatever. I quite like that.
so much this. the crowd were acting like fucking morons at the front of the saturday night ATP set. i wish the band had been on the floor.
I first saw them when I was 16 and even shorter than I am now. Everyone kept asking me if I could see and if I'd like to go in front of them. I managed to make my way to the front, which was probably a huge mistake given my height and skinny frame at the time...
I may be wrong though. I imagine that there's health and safety risks with playing on the floor of bigger venues. That said, Dan Deacon gets away with it.
see t'other thread
Fleece is a little smaller than The Dome though I guess.
when they played it live
best show ive seen in years.
i liked the fact that due to their being on the floor, folk had to clamber up everything to get a glimpse. i opted to risk it and heave my way as close them as possible. what a fucking ace night :)
what time do doors open tomorrow night? 8 innit?
and doors will be 7.30pm hopefully if soundchecks run on time!!
ears fucked up and destroyed more than HEALTH could ever do. To be honest I might be more excited about Drum Eyes. I saw them at Offset and they were amazing.
Face value obviously.

I was kneeling on the stage for most of it.
I feel like I've been kneecapped but so what. Dracula mountain was more beautiful than I ever imagined. For future reference either play on a stage or don't. The in between thing has
probably ruined my legs. It was probably alright for shorter people but I'm six two YEAH
Drum eyes are the second best band I've seen this year. After lightning bolt
That was AMAZING.
Did they play in the crowd?
tiny wooden blocks in the crowd, it was a lot of fun!
They were on small platforms but it was technically the floor. I was right in the pit, was superb. The bit where that skinhead moron was attacked by Brian Chippendale was superb, he definitely had it coming.
he was such a bell end.
I was watching them from the right of the stage. Great view of the show. Drum eyes were so impressive. The guitarist thought I was a drunken twat when I complemented him on his show though.
My body hurts from The Dome's beer and lightning bolt's donness!
between brian and the audience guy? was someone hitting his cymbals with something? i couldn't make out what was going on.
Basically this skinhead guy was fucked. I was standing right in front of bass player Brian and this bloke kept trying to hit his bass strings, it annoyed him and he tried to push the guy away a few times. It was funny watching him play ferociously while also checking on the location and activities of this prick.
Anyway, I thought he'd fucked off somewhere only to realise he hadn't when drummer Brian stopped playing and basically stood up and started shouting at him. I saw the bloke and tried to get through the crowd to pull him out as I thought he was in for a total shoeing (I secretly wanted to smack him myself, he really wound me up).
Anyway, drummer Brian either punched him or hit him in the head with his drumsticks... the bloke was bleeding from the head when he was dragged past me. Loads of folk were filming so hopefully it was captured.
I then went and got a drink and saw him leaving with security.
Yes, he was continually hitting the cymbals like a cock.
glad he received a slap. chippendale's later crowd apology for not turning the other cheek was funny.
i hope some decent footage comes out from the gig. there were nuff people on the stage behind the band - a good angle for filming.
that guy deserved it. I was wedged between the two platforms and he was pissing everyone off so much.
Still, fucking amazing gig, don't even care that my glasses are new ruined/im covered in bruises/can't hear anything.
Yeah he totally deserved it, I was so ready to dive in with fists.
I had my earplugs in the whole time, took them out when I was at the bar and it was scarily loud. You kids need to protect your ears...
either that or my ears are finally fucked.
that it was that loud during the gig, but my ears were ringing afterwards and still are, slightly.
Last night was the loudest gig i've ever been too. I was right at the front though. I've seen them twice before and MBV 3 times but this is the loudest ring in my ear ever.
I could still hear everything but it just wasn't so loud. It's nice to leave a Lightning Bolt without your ears ringing!
i've seen this year...f*cken epic...liked the fact that it had a bit of reckless abandon with the amp problems and the bleeding skinhead.
lightning bolt when they haven't had to stop/start to sort out equipment malfunction(s) of some kind. it would seem strange if they did, i think it's totally part of the lightning bolt experience.
You know they're doing well when they get through one tune without a break.
they started out by saying that they'd just bought a load of new gear and replaced their shitty beat-up stuff and part of me was a bit disappointed. *luckily* they still managed to have loads of technical problems, despite this.
I remember that, it was a totally hilarious false start. It would be a total fail if it wasn't Lightning Bolt.
would be nice to return it to the soundguy.
I was quite impressed by the sound there to be honest. Great venue and so close to my house!
my first time there too. liked it a lot.
got any photos from the night?
I'd hate to have to get shots of that show. It was insane!
