Where to start? Mm..Food gets a lot of good press doesn't it?
Viktor Vaughn-Vaudeville Villain
Those two are his best. Then after that I'd get MM Food and Operation Doomsday and King Geedorah-Take Me To Your Leader and Born Like This.
Viktor Vaughn - Vaudeville Villain
Operation Doomsday as MF DOOM
and probably as King Geedorah with Take Me To Your Leader.
MM Food is good and fun but it's not better than the above three.
Yeah, expansive vocab. Also, yeah, Madvillainy is a must have, forgot about that somehow.
Dangerdoom gets some flack on these here boards, but its got some great tracks on it, and is probably a good starting point of you are unfamiliar with Doom, after Madvillainy of course.

Its where I did and its a sweet little warm up for Vaudeville Villain/Madvillainy awesomeness, so if you fancy that I reckon go for it. JoeDiddly bemoans his own lack of descriptive language but it is generally "good" and quite a lot of "fun" and consistently listenable, and a good way to get used to Doom's style before you press onwards.
get up on his work with MF Grimm.
And previous to that he was in a group with his (now deceased) brother called KMD, check the albums Mr. Hood and Black Bastards, both are early 90s classics.
is my favorite under the name MF Doom.
with his live album, which i need to get.
You cannot be serious.
BUT, if Thom Yorke said it, then it MUST be true!
Live rap albums; not sure I have ever heard a good one, it just doesn't translate. Well, maybe Jay Z mtv unplugged but even then I would rather listen to the studio versions.
a joke. Needs work. Though saying that I quite like Live From Planet X. Anyway, clearly you should start with Madvilliany, Vaudeville Vaughan and Born Like This. The Charles Bukowski sample makes my day every time.
If you like Madvillain (which you will), get the Four Tet and Koushik remix EPs. The Four Tet remixes of 'Great Day' and 'Money Folder' are TO DIE FOR. Or something.
I'd do it chronologically.
KMD 'Mr Hood' has that happy, Native Tongues, sound.
KMD 'Black Bastards' takes a pretty dark turn. A lot more raw. I think its aged way better than Mr Hood.
MF Doom's 'Operation: Doomsday!' came after a gap of a good few years, and is an evolution of the sound that was developing on 'Black Bastards'. His brother had died, 'Black Bastards' was actually shelved by Elektra and he'd stopped making music pretty much. Then BAM - one of the finest hip hop records of all time (IMO). I don't know what it is about that album, but I still get the same feeling from it now after 10 years. Really sums up that whole time in hip hop - loads of garbage being put out, but some absolute classics popping up out of nowhere these weird indie labels in NYC that sound like they've been recorded in some bedsit in Brooklyn.
Next - Viktor Vaughn 'Vaudeville Villain'. Some experimental electronic steez.
Madvillain. The one with Madlib.
Then i'd probably leave it. I'm a complete Doom fanboy and have bought pretty much everything he's every put out, but it starts to get patchy.
If you're only picking one, it HAS to be 'Operation: Doomsday!'. That really is all there is to it basically.
I prefer Madlibs Beat Kondukta series but both have there ups and downs.
Yep. Bought them all individually as they came out (I have Volume 1 & 2 signed) then I bought that box set kind of thing that Nature Sounds put out. They're nice to own, although I rarely listen to them. Never in fact.
Like I said, total fanboy.
I even bought one of those dolls. And the Madvillain box set.
This the figure you talking about?
I have been eyeing this print for about a year and I think the wife is gonna hook it up for Christmas.
Of course I got to do it big and get the 40" x 60" version. Pretty bad-ass illustration.
I respect the fanboy-ism.
Yeah - thats the one.
The signed Special Herbs CDs were just from Sandbox.
That illustration is awesome!
They definitely had Mm...Food in RPM but if they've got Madvillainy I think I'll go for that.
