Great pitchfork review... http://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/13728-asleep-in-the-back-deluxe-edition/
Terrific album, but reissued deluxe albums still piss me off, 'cause i refuse to pay for the same album again
but it's largely dependant on whether or not the original material has been remastered or not. I won't buy an album twice if all I'm getting is a few b-sides/EP tracks tacked on. Last albums I double-dipped were Buckley's Grace and the Manic's anniversary edition of the Holy Bible (which came with the American master, which is a must-have in my opinion).
As for Asleep in the Back, while being one of my favourite albums of all time (and god bless that Pitchfork reviewer for equating them with The National, they're practically brother/sister bands in my heart), this deluxe edition just isn't bringing enough to make me consider it a must-get. However, for anyone who hasn't heard the album, I'd recommend it in a heart-beat. It fights with a Cast of Thousands for a place in my top 10 of the 00s, about the only band who'd get 2 albums in there comfortably.
is one of my fave writers, along with Brian Howe and ok.. most of the others..
But it's worth it for the tracks taken from a live set at the Astoria, George Lassoes The Moon being the highlight.
