Does anybody know of any good local venues or anything around Canterbury?
is the only good venue in or around canterbury - run by the people who do lounge on the farm. generally good stuff i.e. casiokids, shortwave set, dj format, jeremy walmsley, joe lally, eugene mcguiness have all played, and fionn regan and chris t-t are booked for the new year.
what brings you to canterbury?
or there's a little live venue called the orange street music club that mostly does folk and jazz and stuff I think. Haven't been there for a while.
Canterbury's independent record shop shut down ages ago :(
haven't been there myself in a while, and even though the record selection isn't amazing, still has plenty of good deals on vinyl/record players/speakers etc...maybe it is closed tho!? not sure...
orange street is good on a tuesday, free blues- sometimes amazing, sometimes very weird, generally good craic. after that head up to the uni for some very straightforward indie disco stuff, shite music but it's a great combination for a night out. then come home with me and my friends and get high as fuck.
the farmhouse is the only real alternative venue, great food, good deals, decent live music (slightly too enthrall of whatever fad is big in london but beggars can't be choosers). they also have amazing dj sets. bit pricey but get writing articles for the uni newspaper or DiS and you can get in free to review stuff now & again.
london isn't too far away for MUST-SEE stuff (caught Wavves, Built To Spill, Agalloch, Propagandhi, Bon Iver) there over the last year. manipulate the national express funfare/ticket texted to yr mobile thing to get free transport up there if necessary.
let me know when you're over, i'm always happy to hang out and maybe we could trade some music or whatever it is us indie types or supposed to do.
good luck, i knew a whole bunch of american students last year and they all loved the place...hope you have the same experience!
