I love the Rat. Should I get that album or You & Me or something else.
it's by in large the best thing they have done
I'll get Bows and Arrows unless I get an overwhelming wave of support for you & me in the next few minutes.
In that case get Bows + Arrows for now. Then next time you want to buy an album get You & Me
but I think Bows + Arrows is the best introduction to The Walkmen. However, You & Me is their best album in my opinion (only just, though).
The Rat is definitely one of my favourite songs ever too.
Good band indeed. I regret not bothering to go see them a couple of years ago so much...
They're playing the Pavement ATP.
but Bows + Arrows has a few songs that are better than anything else they've done. You should also definitely get the debut eventually. A Hundred Miles is really pretty good too. Stay the fuck away from Pussy Cats though...
But I found Bows and Arrows massively disappointing. I haven't heard any other stuff, but just saying.
but after rediscovering it over the past couple of months it's actually really good. It's just that The Rat is the best track on it, and it's the only one that sounds like that.
The North Pole and Little House of Savages are both excellent as well.
best thing they've ever done....and one of the best things ANYONE has ever done. it's that good.
I think people hear The Rat and expect every song to be like that. They're not. Doesn't mean they aren't excellent tunes though.
Easily in my top three.
as that has quite a few songs with the energy of The Rat, though not as impeccably produced. It's a wonderful record.
but Bows + Arrows ranks pretty highly there too. Everyone Who Pretended to Like Me Is Gone though is class too.
is only £5 in Fopp at the moment. I picked it up at the weekend and seems pretty damn good so far.
not such a big deal for me, however, as i own all their albums anyway. and echo the majority of the sentiments above.
You & Me - instant classic. murder anyone who thinks otherwise
Bows + Arrows - almost as brilliant, but still my favourite for sentimental reasons (138th Street a very special song)
A Hundred Miles Off - Snog
Everyone Who Pretended To Like Me Is Gone - Marry
Pussy Cats - Avoid
And so, so good live. Seen them three times - genuinely intense, like every gig was the last. Impressed by such committment
