How dare you post stage times. I've spent loads of money on other stage times and then you announce THESE stage times?
Shame about Battles and Melvins clash.
Lightning Bolt vs Polvo vs Mike Diver (on Sunday)
this has cheered me up today
i am now far too excited to do ANYTHING.
only real clash is with the crispin glover show and either papa m or shellac. Om vs. afrirampo, I'll do the latter as i'm see OM on monday. Only odd thing being Shellac's early playing times but I'm not complaining. Cannot wait. Oh and that 2am Sunn show will be heady.
always played early, to encourage people to get out of bed or something.
Edan clashing with Tortoise :(
The level of party that I will be at by that time on the Friday will not be conductive to a Tortoise set. Edan then Cherrystones FTW
I saw Tortoise last week and they were great. Double drummers! Think I'll make up my mind on the night.
i'll catch them on sunday. i was just remembering the primavera set being late, haven't seen shellac at atp yet.
Sunn O)O)))))O at 2am will be a spectacle.
no clashes i'm that bothered about!
Fuck Buttons friday night!
Lightning Bolt to close the festival!
Mars Volta + EITS double whammy!
Modest Mouse on centre stage!
but I knew it would be with so much stuff that I'd like to see. Seems a bit churlish to complain and I always end up missing stuff anyway.
The For Carnation / Beak clash makes me sad.
then head over for tfc
only one slight clash that I can see
Lightning Bolt v Mike Diver
Though one of those clever spreadsheets would be appreciated...
Looking forward to Papa M with a hangover on Saturday. Perfect-o.
And the Polvo/Lightning Bolt/MD Deejay set thing.
Maybe I'll throw on some LB for those what ain't watching them.
Bardo Pond, Growing, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Fuck Buttons, Six Organs then Tortoise!
Not seeing Edan?
annoyed i can't catch his london show so this will have to do for me.
He was playing with Elisa from Magik Markers, Alex Neilsen on Drums and another guy. I think Chasny said Elisa won't be playing with them at ATP though.
Although I'm not that familiar with them beyond "Millions...", I really would like to. I might sack off Yeah Yeah Yeahs to get crunk before Fuck Buttons....
It's a tough call though. Edan's DJ set at vs the Fans was incredible.
Afrirampo -> Om -> Shellac -> Porn -> Melvins
Melvins vs Battles and Sunn O))) vs Mars Volta. Thats gonna be a toughie.
However boo about the clash with Breeders
But I have the chance to go see Battles in Berlin on Friday. Maybe I'll take it up.
Breeders vs Modest Mouse. On paper, a clash, in reality, not at all. MM all the way
I think I'll let the beer decide...
for most of the second half ...
Liverpool v Arsenal clashes with Deerhoof and Devendra Banhart
At least we can all be grateful that Portsmouth v Burnley is in the clear.
Mum - 6 Organs of Admittance - but i guess i can see half and half...
Edan - F Buttons/Tortoise - not much tome to see edan, but at least it's only a deejay set anyway.
Melvins - Battles this is annoying, but i'll probably watch melvins after being nonplussed by Battles.
Breeders - Modest Mouse - :'(
Sunn 0))) - The Mars Volta - :''''(''' <-- i won't be able to handle the other Sunn 0))) set :(
Lightening Bolt - Mike Diver <--- the first really fun DJ set i've seen at ATP for years against one of the most exciting live bands around, who i've never seen :''''''''('''''''''
still, it's going to be a great weekend.
can you see both Shellac sets?
butlins gave us a last minute earlier curfew in crazy horse on sunday which is why mike's dj set clashes with bands.
and it is probably a wiser time for that sort of fun, it's still annoying though.
We have to leave? Oh, OK.
This makes me a bit flaccid.
Oh well, it's still going to be great. Luckily I absolutely fucking hate the mars volta so that's cool. And, Melvins for sure.
i hope the 2 hours that the Mars Volta have is used wisely, if they turn it into an excuse to fiddle their packages for the most part, i'm off.
Not really listened to much of their post-Frances stuff. How does it compare with the first two records?
i've not really got into it yet, but i should try, i'm sure it's good.
Bedlam in Goliath one has some utterly great moments, then some of that fiddly dross Omar likes to fill everything with, but it is better than Amputechture, which has no soul.
I tried honestly I tried but it was absolute bollox. Fair play to them though the bands they picked that weekend were generally great. Beware the noodling kids....
it was an endurance filled wander around filled with cig breaks. but apparently they've been playing much shorter sets on the most recent tour, around 90 minutes of actual songs. If they do that at ATP, i'll be delighted.
They're in the top three live bands I've ever seen, and Warren Ellis has killer stage banter. Even better than Albini.
at the first vs the fans, i missed the first shellac show, because i wanted to see current 93, and although they were great, i later regretted not getting as much Shellac as i possibly could.
i might try to leave Shellac early...
Some people just don't know what's good for them. Still it will mean more space for us with more sense ;)
...Battles being on the Pavillion stage so early. Their late show on centre stage a few years back was massive. Well, it's a shame any band has to play the Pavillion stage, but there we go. T'is an atmosphere vacuum. Still, good job cramming everything in without too many clashes!
are the people who go on and on about the pavilion when some of the best ever atp performances have been in there...the national, grinderman, dirty three, devo
it was way better in the Portishead nightmare as it gets dark earlier. I'm excited for Sonic Youth there.
That in May (The Breeders ATP) the bands I saw on Pavilion were great but many sets i've seen on there before have been dogged by smudgey sound. Also the sound on Centre Stage has been some of the best i've heard on any system anywhere.
only Devo (out of those you list and also all of the bands that have played on the Pavillion) have convinced me that they would not be better on the Centre Stage.
That's not to say that the Pavillion is bad, it's just that I think most people would rather see bands on the Centre Stage or Reds.
see bands in smaller venues shocker. The sound in the pavilion has noticably improved.
And that is saying something.
Is there any way to indicate what kind of beds you want? I have a 4 berth self catering, with 4 guys. ideally we'd want twins or bunks instead of doubles. obviously we can share doubles if needs be, but y'know.
so most (all?) chalets have one double bed and the rest are single beds or bunks.
anyone got a spare ticket and a place in a car from london?
Though I warn you that it gets infinitely more points for technical merit than for artistic impression.
It also fails to make the clashes between 6pm and 10pm on Sunday go away.
the best thing about this spreadsheet is your fantastic time calculations!
Beak and The For Carnation still clashing though.
show off ;)
is there a hidden worksheet or something?
i think there's a worksheet called Data somwhere where the start and end times are linked to the band, and if the times in column c match then it places the band. there is then some conditional formatting to put white text at all except the start time. i just don't know where the data is.
before limitting the length of the band names on the ouput.
Format > Sheet > Unhide in Excel 2003, Home > Format > Hide/Unhide > Unhide Sheet n Excel 2007.
The design isn't perfect, but it does the job. The theory is that it could be replicated for any ATP without much more than some shuffling of the list on the website. The reality is that I just enjoy building things like this, though I may test it on the NBC details to see if my excuse holds...
This did only take about five minutes - http://www.andstarscollide.com/temp/ATP_NBC09.zip
It gets slightly broken by the DJs being adjacent to bands on Friday night, and MBV look unnecessarily shortened without the capital letters, but give me another few years of ATP and I'm confident that last night's time wasting will be worth it!
PS http://www.andstarscollide.com JAG
it just took me an eternity to work out that the times went from bottom to top.
will i be able to buy irn bru anywhere? if so, where?
It might be available in the on-site shop maybe??
Otherwise you'll be able to get it in the supermarket which is liek five minutes walk away.
someone in england advise me!
Mind you seeing as everyone just moans in these threads I will say I would have preferred some fun stuff to start the whole thing off what you could dance to and that like when the first band was The Thermals that time or Melvins 1983.
See you there! I mean 'you' plural and I probably won't see you as such because I don't know what you look like but the thought is there isn't it and that's what matters right right
Shellac -> Porn -> Melvins has me written all over it.
I dunno if I want to endure Porn again mind
