Music to fall asleep to
I tend to listen to Godspeed, Nick Drake, Leonard Cohen, Sigur Ros and Clint Mansell and Enni Morricone soundtracks.
Anyone recommend anything?

Loveless
^came here to say that
Roy Orbison would be good too
And The Blue Nile - Hats.
And Kraftwerk
Max Richter
Hammock
Grouper
Natural Snow Buildings
this.
plus isengrind, owl klub, islaja, kuupuu, fennesz. GHQ, fursaxa, and hala strana.
Brian Eno
For sure
have dosed off to Eno many, many times. Have stayed awake through them too, mind, but I do love drifting off to 'Discreet Music', 'Music For Airports' etc. etc.
Also see William Basinski's 'Disintegration Loops', although I do tend tend to get very odd (sometimes disturbing) dreams sleeping to them... That can be interesting in itself though and provide another route of creative inspiration.
Apologies,
kind of went of on one at the end there. I'm tired, what can I say...

Mi Media Naranja
impossible not to drift away to the gentle melodies of Mi Media Naranja's final track. One of my favourite songs of all time.
^so much this
aye
tis a great album...
this is a very very stong list.
Labradford and Rameses III especially.
Most things on Type released recently fit this bill, to be honest.
Also recently, try Le Lendemain - Fires; a collabaration between Library tapes, and Danny Norbury, whose Light in August is great.
Any of Richard Skelton album's also fit the purpose.
also, someone below mentioning Tangerine Dream has reminded me
the new Onehontrix One Never album Rifts is genius.
Also, try Roj or the Focus Group on Ghost Box. Or bits of King Midas Sound's new album, or this lovely mix with people like Oval, MBV, and A.R. Kane in it + lots of lovely reggae: http://www.factmagazine.co.uk/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=4031&Itemid=98
Listened to some clips and thought...
"This'd either send me to sleep or send me mental".
Then I saw what's in the 'customers that bought this also bought' section.
This is in TOTALLY the wrong place.
:-(
nico - desert shore
Cocteau Twins
Try "Four Calendar Café", awesome album and perfect to sleep to.
As a teenager in the 80's..
.Tangerine Dream was my staple bed-time companion.
Beach House, yo
and Interpol. Ulver's last album is good too.
ryuichi sakamoto
especially his new one
'Harmony In Ultraviolet' and 'Haunt Me, Haunt Me, Do It Again' both by Tim Hecker.
These are two incredibly beautiful albums. Although, I don't sleep to this, or any music really, but I think these just might do the trick.
Most nights
William Basinski - Disintegration Loops
Cluster and Eno - s/t
Brian Eno - Discreet Music
Steve Reich - Music For 18 Musicians
The Dead Texan - s/t
Hope Sandoval and the Warm Inventions - Baravian Fruit Bread
Also
'I Will Always And Forever Hold You In My Heart And Mind' by Aidan Baker
'Ambient Compendium - Dark Massive' by Bill Laswell
The 'Solaris Soundtrack' by Cliff Martinez (awesome stuff!)
As well as
Oval
Tetsu Inoue
William Orbit
Beach House, but
when I saw them Victoria Legrand was wearing these crazy leg-warmers-for-your-arms and this jacket with friggin enormous shoulder pads and a bunch of spangly bracelet things so now I picture this really strangely dressed woman singing me to sleep.
i can't sleep if i have music on
but i normally listen to Olafur Arnalds before i sleep
love sleeping to
the orb/ adventures beyond the ultraworld
boards of canada/ music has the right to children

Craig Pruess & Ananda - 108 sacred names of mother divine

For fans of ambient,
especially of the darker/dronier variety, I'd highly recommend picking up this collection for £4 from Amazon:-
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Nasa-Voyager-Space-Sounds/dp/B002N7O39W/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=dmusic&qid=1259708956&sr=8-1
Some of the tracks remind me of Steve Roach, and there's hours of music on this. It's amazing, not only for how it sounds but how it's made - most of the tracks are perfect for falling asleep too or just general background music. Sample from "Jupiter" here - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e3fqE01YYWs

As well as a lot of the stuff that has been mentioned
Ys
use to do it for me every time, I've not put it on for quite a while though. I like to put on podcasts before I sleep now.
I find it impossible to do anything other than get impossibly sucked in by Ys
I get hooked by her lyrics, then I start imagining visually what's going on, then before I know it an hour's passed and I'm still awake. Brilliant album though.
I drift right off to it
I went ages without even getting to track three at one point. I get sucked into it if I don't wack it on late at night when sleepy.
Mostly ambient electronica or minimalist stuff

Wow
what do you listen to to stay awake?
I go for anything by The Clientele - wonderfully dreamy
I'm finding it hard to answer that question actually.
Most Dinosaur Jr. stuff I guess, hmm. Yeah..
Speaking of which
Has anyone had that freaky thing where they wake up thinking of a song, and then you go and switch the radio on and that song starts playing? That's really weird.
Slowdive
