would you feel as if downloading the album illegally was actually an ok thing to do?
Although I have now switched over to paid downloads so no longer have to worry about the issue
generally because of cost. When I buy a single on vinyl and there's tracks that I don't have digitally then I have no problems downloading it illegally.
For me it's an alternative to ripping from vinyl and I generally end up with a better quality MP3.
that didn't have a download link included.
it had the ep on CD as well included in the sleeve. Nice touch guys.
But no. This is one of the 2 times I don't mind illegally downloading.
The other time is with that Sparklehorse/Dangermouse LP. If they're not going to ever release because the record companies are being dicks, what else can you do?
afaik the only legal way to do it is if you make the copy yourself. same for vinyl, games, videos, anything like that.
morally its another matter though obvs, considering how much of a pain in the arse it usually is. no one benefits from you going through the inconvenience of ripping it yourself, and the end result is the same, so why not just download it
as although you could make an mp3 rip (is backing up legal?)it is a hassle, part of what is being sold as an mp3/cd is the music in a convinient format, so you are stealing the convinience. but I have no qualms personally
It's fine, if you had the gear you'd probably rip it to MP3 anyway right?
and if the record comes with a download coupon, then all the better.
a download token should be as standard but if not then I download it - just did precisily this with the new King Khan and the BBQ album.
I always do this. A lot of records come with a download code anyway, but if not I'll torrent it. I've paid for the recording',
most new-release vinyl albums come with a token for a complimentary legal download anyway.
