Buying an album for my Dad
Its my Dad's birthday coming up and I want to buy him an album, something reasonably knew. He's a big fan of John Martyn, Yes, Wilco and Pat Metheny.
Any recommendations? Cheers.

*new
sorry.
i played my dad
funeral by arcade fire recently and he loved it.
Grizzly Bear?
Teddy Thompson
Richard Thompsons son, whos an old Folk legend.
Bill Callahan would be a safe bet
Ah weird I thought of Yes when I read the title
New artists would be people like Caribou, Jonquil, Grizzly Bear, The Dodos, Evangelicals, Maybe even something like Johnny Flynn. Maybe MGMT?
here's two...
for one from "his era", go with the re-release of Roy Wood's "Boulders". For a new one, try Robbie Fulks, Ron Sexsmith or the two Ray Davies lps. Actually, the Ray Davies ones are probably a great choice.
My dad really likes Paulo Nutini
He obviously appeals to the Dad demongraphic.
For something more credible, how about:
James Blackshaw "The Glass Bead Game"
Andrew Bird "Noble Beast"
or The Very Best? (does he like world music?)
I'm A Dad
and I think Paulo Nutini is a cunt.
me too.
on both counts.
Are you me?
Get him Woods
'Songs of Shame' - http://www.myspace.com/woodsfamilyband
Anything from Woodland Recordings label? http://www.myspace.com/woodlandrecordings. The new Great Park album could be good. You can get all the label's archive albums for free from the website.
Diagonal? they're quite yessy -maybe a bit King Crimsony too - more proggy.
that's my 4p worth.
GxMx
i didnt reply there.
ffs
THREADSMASH LIVES ON!
I think you mean the mum demo...
see amy winehouse, little boots, paloma faith, bbc radio 2
"He obviously appeals to the Dad demongraphic".
I'm a dad. He doesn't.
Grizzly bear, Beirut, and the last Gravenhurst album would do the trick.
I'm a Dad too.
Perhaps I was referring to the Grandad demographic.
Fair do's
I bumped into a guy my son went to school with, at ROTA on Saturday. That was a bit funny.
Nice
Kids are just going to have to get used to the fact that us fogies will never grow old gracefully.
Richard Hawley stuff.
I bought my dad Coles Corner and Lady's Bridge recently and he loved them.
Get him Illinoise by Sufjan Stevens
Not to new but
my old man nicked my Lambchop - Ohio cd not long ago, he also love's Muse so it's not all good
My dad loves Wilco
and also Grandaddy, Elbow (before they were famous yeah?), Lambchop, and Okkervil River. He's always banging on at me to burn him the other Okkervil River albums I have, it's pretty annoying seeing as he gets paid a freakin fortune.
Although a couple of years ago I did buy him the Panda Bear album and he returned it. My brother bought him the Avril Lavigne album and he loved that. :(
Dunno
I bought Jenny Lewis & The Watson Twins' Rabbit Fur Coat for my dad, which seemed to go down ok.
I dunno but my mum like WIld Beasts, if that helps.
Fleet Foxes win this one all over
Dads love The National
It's a fact. Get him Boxer, surely a good call?
Maybe try
the Low Anthem. or The Tallest Man On Earth. Or the first Howling Bells album.
My dad only listens to Danko Jones and Thin Lizzy.
i reckon he'll like this one
