Guillemots Red
I still haven't listened to this yet, but I listen to Through The Windowpane very regularly.
Will Red taint my enjoyment of the band/album I'm already so familiar with?
That new Fyfe track sounds good, is Red like that? I think I heard one dodgy R'n'B influenced number when it came out that everyone hated, is it more like that?
I think
there's not much between Big Dog (the dodgy R'n'B track) and She Needs Me, so if you enjoyed that the album should go down alright. I would say Red will prove a much less fulfilling listen, but you won't despise Guillemots after it. It's a much more linear affair, but anything will seem dull after Sao Paulo, eh? It's worth a listen, definitely.
Cockateels
Every bit as spellbinding as anything from their debut.
It's very much a mixed bag
Give it a try, I'm not too keen on much of it but Through the Windowpane is still brilliant so it's hardly destroyed my enjoyment of that record.
I really like Red
It's not as cohesive as Windowpane due to its more democratic nature, but once you get past it's pretty much loaded with top songs. "Words" is a bit dull and "Get Over It" doesn't really excite me anymore, but otherwise it's got no dark patches.
Cockateels, Standing on the Last Star and Kriss Kross are some of their best songs.
Also
Can't believe I forgot Clarion out of that list...
And Falling Out of Reach... and Don't Look Down...
It may not be as divinely perfectly beautiful and life-affirmingly amazing as Through the Windowpane but it's still a damn good album.
ask Jook about this album..
he has very strong feelings about this album lol
maybe i should just borrow it from work
and make a 'back up'
it's probably the worst album I've heard in the last ten years
in terms of just how disappointed I was with it. The debut, I loved. This was like rubbing shit in the face of an angel.
theres a quote
you wont see written on the cover lol
