Kings of Leon
have made a VERY good album.
You're also wrong, because Interpol's first album is VERY good. In fact, I'd say that if I was going to make the best CD I could out of Interpol's catalogue then it would be the first album, untouched. The rest of their stuff isn't anywhere near as good.
is a VERY good album IMO.
it could be argued that the first KoL one is very good too, i guess.
Or quite a few Britpop bands:
Ocean Colour Scene
but you cannot, at all, argue that I Should Coco and In it for the Money are not extraordinary records.
which sort of average bands could make a really good best-of?
It'll be any bands who are very very good, but have a habit of rushing albums through (not so) careful use of 'filler'.
controversial though it may be, I can, and have, made a killer album from my favourite tracks from Wild Beast's Limbo Panto and Two Dancers. Obviously they're both very good albums in their own right, but the personalised 'best of' is absolutely fantastic.
Vigil For A Fuddy Duddy
The Fun Powder Plot
The Devil's Crayon
All The King's Men
We've Still Got The Taste Dancing On Our Tongues
This Is Our Lot
The Old Dog
His Grinning Skull
Two Dancers I
Brave Bulging Buoyant Clairvoyants
The Empty Nest
erm Hooting and Howling...?
Muscle Museum, Newborn, Micro Cuts, Plug In Baby, Citizen Erased, Feeling Good, Stockholm Syndrome, Hysteria, The Smallprint, Supermassive Black Hole, Knights of Cydonia, Unnatural Selection.
really awful song. Feeling Good isn't what I listen to Muse for but it's a decent enough cover.
Where is Space Dementia, Showbiz, Butterflies & Hurricanes? I'd probably stick MK Ultra in there as well. That's still only 14 tracks...
OoS and Absolution are easily good enough as stand alone albums anyway.
stick in Dead Star, Showbiz and Hyper Music.
considering a "best of" would usually consist of 17ish songs thorners original list was a little short anyway.
Completely forgot that one. I thought it was a bit short, but was trying to keep it to 'album' length, rather than 'compilation' length. Missed off Butterflies for that reason, and can't believe I missed Space Dementia.
It's alright, but Muse are capable of so much more than 'alright'.
They could do the best "Best of" ever. But I wouldn't trust them to choose the right tracks to go on it.
Condensing Interpol would do nothing, they've already got an absolute 24 carat classic; if you were looking at Antics and OLTA then yeah, two classics.
Maxïmo's debut is ridiculously good in its genre, doesn't need much culled from it tbf. The other two could be joined to make a strong record though, if not brilliant.
Killers and KoL: their albums would transcend very good albums into the realm of modern classics; then again, they wouldn't flow as well - that's what Greatest Hits are for.
I'm a big Maxïmo fanboy but yeah, condensing their three albums (mostly the first two) would make a killer album.
is a CD totally full of win.
I believe Deerhoof probably fall into this category.
You could compress their last four and get one good album.
Cherry pick the first three and you get an incredible album.
Carrying on in the same vein:
I also really disagree with those who said Ash, Maximo and Supergrass
in my largely unpopular opinion.
if anything have progressed as they went along, a certain trigger was quality
our earthly pleasures beat it, but only just
and quicken the heart doesnt have a fault on it
paul smith is such a good lyricist and duncan lloyd is also great
maybe a double album because he has released so many, but the point is there
Feels a bit silly to write that they've troughed as none of them have gone past 30 yet, but their debut is still their best.
On every album they have some songs that are fucking ace, with most of the others provoking apathy. You could get a mint album and a half out of the former ones I reckons.
The latter if double-albums are allowed.
The only thing his albums occasionally suffer from is being a bit too sprawling, so a double-album wouldn't really help that.
But the vast majority of his albums are half-forgettable, half-good/great. There lies a genius double-album compilation of sorts in those partial goodies.
Oh Weezer, how I hate thee so much right now for no real reason.
The guy who honestly can't see why Make Believe is so hated.
John Spencer Blues Explosion, The International Noise Conspiracy, Danko Jones, Richard Cheese, Soundgarden (double album probably, but only just), White Rose Movement (could probably get one really good EP)
That's all I can think of off the top of my head.
for The Dandy Warhols
but a phenomenal one!
just get the 'Better than Kasabian' album - XTRMNTR
Out At The Pictures
Shake A Fist
Boy From School (live version, not sure where he got it from)
Over And Over
Ready For The Floor
You Rule, We Ride, In My Ride
it seeing them live that really got me loving them but since then i've really loved this collection of their songs.
Only Built for Cuban Linx 1 and 2
Ghostface's whole catalog
Return to the 36 Chambers
Thanks for playing tho.
