Or whatever they call themselves these days...
New album in February
hope its better than the last one (with the exception of blindblindblind)
even though it didn't have half the energy it does live.
if they weren't so fucking pretentious.
what are they being pretentious about?
They try so hard but it suck like balls. It really puts me off. Which is a shame because the music isn't bad.
More like. See what I did there?
which is also wrong because with asmz words wherever they appear are the best bit
think thats quite nice to acknowledge
on their name rather than the music then hahaha
the two new tracks i've heard are piss poor though, worst things they've done IMO
I vaguely remember really liking one of those songs live, I really don't like the rocky direction they went in though, hopefully the band members thinning out may rectify this
is the 'main one', thats split out into two parts. just dont think its particularly memorable..
what are their best songs?
A) 'their early stuff' camp of 'he has left us alone...' and 'born into trouble as sparks fly upwards'(I think), really minimal dark chamber music, mainly instrumental, good
B)the vocal era (post 'this is our punk rock), they went folkier and started to sing on all their songs, efrim has an ...interesting voice but it works because he is singing his heart out.
I am in the b camp, I think there best album is horses in the sky, godbless our dead marines (if you can get past the first couple of minutes) and hang on to each other are my favourites
more action! less tears! blindblindblind, movie(never made), built then burnt, goodbye desolate railyard (I am biased towards their songs that have words)
i will check that lot out!
Ever since the first time I heard blindblindblind at Dirty 3's ATP, I am not ashamed to admit that the 'Some hearts are true!' refrain stops me dead.
Great news about the new record.
i liked the early stuff, but Horses In The Sky blows me away whenever i hear it. that said, the last album didn't do much for me, i got sick of it pretty quickly. plus i had high hopes after the glowing DiS review...
is exactly me, too. Well, depending on how strong that word "liked" is - Born Into Trouble is still the one I think of as my favourite record, but then I hear God Bless Our Dead Marines...
The early era they feel like an extension of Godspeed (which certainly isn't a *bad* thing), but with Horses In The Sky they found a sound of their own. Some of their vocal songs I find really heart-wrenching.
I dont think it's nearly as bad as some on here have made out (100000 died is fab) but 'Horses in the sky' is one of the best albums ever made.
It was a lot better than their proper set, and I don't really know why.
which, while occasionally fantastic, are often absolutely dire, really make me cringe.
i really love the band, in both periods, but they do lose face slightly for trying to pass off lines like
"all those vulgar kings on their dirty thrones, who among us will avenge this Nina Simone?"
"i love my dog and he loves me, the world's a mess and so are we"
in otherwise really great songs.
I think the whole first album was a tribute after she died
Now THERE's a heartwrenching track.
