or is that the point? I don't even understand irony anymore.
ironic autotune-parody stuff is almost never good.
but thing autotune can be great, on god has a voice she speaks through me by cocorosie it sounds amazing the way her voice starts the flutter when it reaches the threshold where the effect kicks in (or however it works)
If it was sung by Rihanna it would be a total massive hit. I don't get why people think the autotune is done in a parody or ironic fashion, though, or why Pitchfork think it might be "shock[ing]" just because the Zola Jesus stuff is somewhat lo-fi. Why can't it just be?
its not just the production but stylistically/texturally/EVERYTHING about it is just a million miles away from zola jesus material. i totally love both but i'd never have expected this in a million years.
the autotune parody stuff comes from everything else on rory kane's myspace i think. which just sounds really really rubbish. idk if its genuine or parody-stuff but that either means its just rubbish & not funny or rubbish. whereas this is an incredible pop song.
I really think auto-tune can be used to make a track more interesting in the same way any other effect on either a voice or an instrument can, it's a shame it gets so much stick.
just listening to this again, after a few months. i still like it a lot.
have you seen she's supporting fever ray at brixton academy? insane but amazing
