I had a day off today
and was giving me old CD's a long over due sort out.
I ended up chucking quite a few away - I can't remember if I bought these albums or was lent them but I was surprised to find how many (what I presume to be) awful albums had found their way into my collection.
Below is a list of those I scrapped without even giving the courtesy of one listen!
1. Scissor Sisters - Scissor Sisters
2. Athlete - Vehicles and Animals
3. Audioslave - Audioslave
4. Badly Drawn Boy - One Plus One is One
5. Courtney Love - America's Sweetheart
6. Dogs Die in Hot Cars - Please Describe yourself
7. Eyes Adrift - Eyes Adrift
8. The Fratellies - Costello Music
9. Goo Goo Dolls - Dizzy Up the girl
10. Longview - Mercury
11. Matchbox 20 - Yourself or someone like you
12. Ordinary Boys - Over the counter culture
13. Red hot chilli peppers - by the way
14. Stereophonics - You Gotta go there to come back
15. Turin Brakes - The Optimist
Pretty abhorrent list eh?
Or did I make any big mistakes? Come on let me know, anyone of these can still be retrieved from the wheelie bin!!

pretty awful CDs
but i really liked vehicles and animals and by the way when they first came out, due to my age at the time, and i'd probably re-listen to them now and then.
Oh come on!
Badly Drawn Boy was always fantastic.
Yourself or Someone Like You was great about 10 years ago when it came out, but now it's just dead. The band is dead.
scissor sisters is the best there
Scissor Sisters are great
Woooow
Hold on there! What on earth is wrong with Dogs Die In Hot Cars? I love that record.
There's one or two others that I'd probably defend as well, but right not my attention's drawn to that one
that dogs die in hot cars album is great
rest are pretty rubbish though
By The Way has 'This is the place' on it,
that's a fucking great song, as a are quite a few others on that album. I don't think there's many less popular bands on DiS than RHCP, but I would still defend them. Also I wouldn't chuck out Audioslave or Eyes Adrift, though I probably wouldn't listen to them again.
^seconded By The Way
Still sounds great even if the band don't anymore.
yeah i used to think
vehicles and animals was a cracker. shame they got worse. badly worse.
i personally love the eyes adrift album so i wouldn't have got rid of that.
DDIHC and Turin Brakes
are probably both worth keeping. Wouldn't rush out and buy 'em or anything, but if you've already got 'em... They've got a few cracking singles on each.
I'd probably pay NOT to have to hear some of the others though.
*reads list again*
Make that definitely. I suggest perhaps setting fire to your dustbin, just to make sure. And double-check your collection.
I never get rid of CDs...
even the Bloodhound Gang's 'Hooray For Boobies'.
Quality album that.
you could
give them to a charity shop?
Not to my taste, but throwing them away?!
a) Don't throw CDs away - give 'em to a charity shop.
b) Don't throw CDs away. It's a slippery slope. You'll end up regretting it. Apart from the fact that I have immaculate taste, my CDs are a collection of memories as well as music, so I've only ever charity shopped CDs that were duplicates from merging my collection with my gf.
c) On the basis of that list, I dread to think what else you've got lurking in your collection.
You merged your collections?
I've been with my lovely lady wife for nearly 15 years. We've lived together for... oooh... six or seven. And still our collections are separate.
I am never going to merge my cds with my wife's
I don't even allow them to touch (some of them are on the same shelf.)
I'll be doing the same soon
but i reckon there will be a lot more than 15 to get the axe!
Surely
you are not gonna send them to a landfill site for the rest of their lives?
if you give them to a charity shop
then you're doing us a favour by making sure the scissor sisters/anthony kiedis are deprived of a couple of quid to feed their immense drug habits. Can't comment on the rest but hopefuly preston ordinary boy lives near you and sees his cd in a bin and weeps uncontrollably in public....
of those i would keep turin brakes
for nostalgia reasons
You gotta keep audioslave surely?
Altogether now "go and save yourself.... take it out on me"!!!!
The first audioslave album
is immense.
You sir, have done yourself a disservice by ditching that gem. Shame on you.
Fuck me
Some of those are terrible. What made you buy them?
If you're stupid enough to throw CDs away
you pretty much don't deserve to be told which ones were worth keeping.
Having read these replies with interest
I felt a surge of guilt about throwing CD's away - no matter how bad they are, so I ventured into the cold dark night, grappled with the putrefied stench of my left over dinner and one by one rescued all 15 albums.
Yes, I agree they are almost all bad CD's and am still having a crisis as to how they all made their way into my collection, but I stand staunchly by the fact I actually only paid money for about three of them (thats what I'm trying to convince myself anyway!)
In my visceral excitement of a clear out thats been over due for about four years, I developed this irrational sense of mind and soul cleansing by actually physically throwing records into the wheelie bin - sorry...
I have decided to save Audioslave and Turin Brakes and dropped the rest into a charity shop today
costello music is actually a pretty good album
very unfairly criticised
By the Way and Scissor Sisters' debut are excellent
WHAT
Turin Brakes, Dogs Die in Hot Cars, By the Way and Audioslave were all mistakes. for shame. I still have every CD i have ever bought.
Man you really gotta get over it
and enjoy that Scissor Sisters album. Comfortably Numb man...Comfortably freakin' Numb.
