Absolutely shameful Postal Service rip-off band gets to #1 in America
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aI4JLa0hbUw
Just fucking awful. Precisely none of the charm or subtlety of the band he's taking off.

fucking hell
i was thinking ... nah it won't be that close but his VOICE!
What are they called?
No youtube
owl city
ahahahaha brilliant
wow
That's incredible. I bet if you interview him and ask him whether he's 'influenced' (that's being VERY polite) by The Postal Service he'd say 'who? never heard of them' and his press guy/gal would come over and say 'The Postal Service never existed' and neuralize you with one of things from Men in Black.

"this iz? an awsome song OWL CITY IZ AWSOME "
Oh my.
controversial opinion here but.
The Postal Service album 'Give Up' is shite apart from 'We will become sillhouettes'
You are
pure evil. And dead inside. DEAD I TELLS YOU.
harsh but probably true : )
I'm going to take it one step further
and say that Death Cab and Postal Service are both shite. Oh and Owl City blow as well.
omg
Oh...
So?
I'm suprised this style hasn't been ripped off more to be honest
and made people lots of hits while postal service sit about.
Don't worry yourself
It's a pretty bad song.

Well deserved
Who cares?
Really, who fucking cares? This shit is so fucking irrelevant to your life.
eh
as someone who used to be an editor of this very site surely you can fully appreciate that regardless of the irrelevance to his life music fans get pretty emotionally involved in bands they like and get a bit indignant when they perceive them to be ripped off or wronged. I should probably just abandon reply.
Unless your just trolling. In which case fair enough.
this tit used to be editor?
jesus
Tbh
It would have been pretty cool if this song had been on Give Up.
BUT
Brum is the video!!! How did something so English get in something so American.........
is in the video**
sorry
In all honesty
if the song just had a different vocal delivery, one that wasn't so desperately clinging to Gibbard's coattails, no one would really give a flying fuck. The music itself is pretty pretty tinkly electronica-by-numbers, lacks any of the nuance or warmth Tamborello puts into his work.
I couldn't even be bothered listening to the whole thing, it was just that derivative. I can totally understand why it's at #1.
It goes all OC-ish towards the end.
I can see the thin one and that blonde bad boy chap making out on the beach to it. It's ace.
umm...
ggnikki224 (10 minutes ago)
good? song lol my fav
MrRatchet1995 (10 minutes ago)
LOL? ME 2
...
Hmm. The only logical explanation is that this guy just writes better songs than The Postal Service. That has to be it.
Oh my lord.
Also: incredible
DIppstick22 (44 seconds ago) Show Hide 0 Marked as spam Reply The speaker wants? to believe earth moves slowly; if he can't believe that simple statement, it must mean the opposite is true--planet Earth spins much too fast. In other words, time passes by much too quickly. The speaker then talks about the desire to remain to remain in that dream trance instead of waking up to reality, because within that dream trance is the innocence of youth. An innocence and naivety that allows a simple act--catching fireflies
my word
it's like the postal service
but has little woosh noises near the choruses, like all proper cheesy pop songs.
yes
reverse cymbal ftw!
Very bad.
"dogbag" is the best user name I've seen in awhile
hmm, thanks, you've just made it easy for me to avoid two awful bands with one fell swoop. Owl City and if they are ripping off Postal Service, charm or no charm? Ah-Void.
lord what shit
I wouldn't be so hasty.
The reason for the outrage is because Owl City are such a facile pastiche. Then again, The Postal Service, much as I like them, still never bettered Tamborello/Gibbard's first collaboration:
Dntel - (This is) The Dream of Evan & Chan
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VE9k0OhoxXA
If Postal Service are no better than "The Dream Of Evan & Chan"?
I'd say I wasn't hasty enough- holy shit. You actually like that? You are a girl and you are 14, right? Please say yes.
: )
Nope, sorry.
I just have a very varied and wide understanding and appreciation of music.
Don't you?
the second i saw this i thought 'Owl City'
One of my pupils talks about them non-stop. I recommended her The Postal Service. Hopefully she recognises the distinction.
This is reminding me of Bad Day by Daniel Powter or something.
I've never listened to Postal Service but the intro seemed familiar so maybe I have.
Oh super-mecha-lol at this comment...
"quirky song.. but i? luv it.. very unique.. "
but i?
Gibbard should sue
How can they get away with that?
His lec-y bill must be huge
as shameless a rip-off as this is
i must've listened to it ten or twelve times today
I've listened to it several times,
but less than this: http://www.shutupwomangetonmyhorse.com/
all those currently slamming postal service
would do well to check out 'natural anthem', kinda the polar opposite of this here thing.
