Best Compilations of 2009?
Started making a list, thus far I have:
- New Moon (Twilight OST)
- The Music Sounds Better with Huw
- Dark Was the Night
- Decent Work for Decent Pay
- Causes 2
- Dylan Mania
- Perfect as Cats (Cure tribute - think this might have been last year!?)
Are compilations dieing out somewhat? I used to spend loadsa money buying things like Punk-o-Rama inorder to check bands out but I guess the website has superseded that?
Anyway, spent about 3 mins throwing this playlist together, so more suggestions are very welcome:

This week Mortika on Mississippi Records was released and Africa Boogaloo came out on Honest Jons, they both sound great - the latter especially.

yes
oh yes
V/A - Ragga Heat, Reggae Beat
They're not on Spotify but:
Score! 20 Years of Merge Records: The Covers
Ciao My Shining Star: The Songs of Mark Mulcahy
FAO anyone with even a passing interest in extreme music:
'Grind Madness at the BBC: The Earache Peel Sessions' is an essential purchase.
Nigeria 70: The Definitive Story of 1970's Funky Lagos
was reissued on Strut this year. If that counts.
And Brainlove won't be happy you missed his Fear of a Wack Planet.
You've also got these bad boys-
Forge Your Own Chains, Vol. 1: Psychedelic Ballads And Dirges 1968-1974 [Now Again]
Psych Funk 101: A Global Psychedelic Funk Curriculum [Stones Throw]
Can You Dig It? The Music And Politics Of Black Action Films 1969-75 [Soul Jazz Records]
Definitive Jux Presents, Vol. 4 [take a wild guess]
plus a load more ridiculous stuff from Strut.
Only v/a ones count, y'know...
Don't run over the birds, please
from the leaf label is rather nice.
Common people story of britpop
Great brit-pop comp as well as having the "biggies" of the scene, got me into quite a few bands who i wasnt familiar with.
the Warp 20
box set takes some beating, even the packaging makes me smile
Leaves of life
is great !
I think there have been loads of good comps out this year,
though admittedly most of the ones I buy are of old, obscure stuff such as the ones on Strut, Analog Africa, Soundway, Honest Jon's etc.
I prefer to buy the singles for current stuff.
