Grizzly Bear at the ABC Glasgow last night.
A bit meh. Granted the sound is never great in the abc (although it was ok last night) and the abc is just a bit of a shit venue but i found them really rather boring at times, a few tracks sounded great but all in I was left rather underwhelmed by the whole gig.
Much preferred St Vincent, i love st vincent.

Grizzly Bear
I Was there
and you're wrong they were excellent! Suffered from some sound problems but played a good and varied set and kept up the banter with the crowd which is more than a lot a bands do these days.
On a neck on a spit was the highlight.
Each to their own and all that my good man.
But i personally found them a bit boring, as i mentioned a few tracks stood out but for long periods it just seemed like they were playing the same song. I did appreciate their banter with the crowd but that wasn't gonna save the gig for me.
The ABC really is shite and i am off to see yo la tengo there on friday.
i loved it
first time iv seen them, but really enjoyed it.
if anything maybe a few songs too long, but thats probs just cause i was knackered.
st vincent was awesome too. top night x
Yeah most of their tracks dragged on too long.
I Quite like the abc myself
but not living in glasgow i only get up to gigs 5 or 6 times a year these days. What venue would you say is better?
Barrowlands - Still the best by some considerable distance.
O2 Academy - Though still not great.
The Arches - Alaways enjoy myself there.
Stereo - Although a fair bit smaller.
Oooh, almost the same as me
For me it's Barrowlands> Arches> Stereo> 02. For intimate stinky sleaziness, the eponymous sleazys of course, although last few times in there I've found the sound shit.
Tomorrow night's SV/GB in Manchester cathedral will be a bit of an event I think.
I love sleazys, like proper love it.
:)
Me too
*homesick wail and something about buckie by the glass*
Nah
Ah'll take the abc over all those venues anytime. Mind you ah've never been to a gig at the arches only a club nite. But ah've never got the fuss over the barra's and i saw deerhunter at stereo in may and thought it had poor sound and restricted vision. I like the garage and king tuts tho.
Fucking amateur.
;)
True dat.
Amazing
Sound and Lights were the best i've seen at the ABC
It was incredible!
Best gig I've seen in yonks!
I was fearing the worst cause ABC is shit and the sound people there seem totally clueless, but Grizzly Bear nailed it, and they were on the ball about getting the sound sorted out right too.
Fairground was a particular highlight, hairs standing up on the back of yer neck stuff...
Hmmmm well maybe it was just me and the folk i was with last night.
i actually really like abc
apart from the bar - always takes too long
oh, and the guy on the door was a bit of a knob
refused to let 4 ppl infront of us in cos he'd seen them drinking wine on the street - they wern't even slightly drunk and its not as if other ppl hadn't been drinking at home or in pubs before
I'm not a great fan of Stereo as a venue
Feels like a bit of a wind tunnel (sound wise) if you aren't in front of the pillar in the middle.
i thought they were great.
(my humble opinion). and i saw about a billion people there i knew, so many people i'd never expect to be at a grizzly bear gig, either.
anyone got a setlist
or an attempt at one for both grizzly bear or st vincent?
I was there!
And I really enjoyed it, although I do agree that Grizzly Bear's set was a fair bit too long. I'm really glad they played their cover of He Hit Me at the end, it was great!
And I think you're wrong about the sound at the ABC, I pretty much always find it great there. It's a great venue, one of Glasgow's best. The sound at the Barra's isn't amazing, I think ABC's better. Nothing beats Stereo's sound though.
St Vincent was really fantastic, I enjoyed her a lot!
