I don't know if it's been done before but you can start pretty much anywhere, there's at least one moment of undeniable genius on every album.
Maybe Achtung Bono would be good though. Solid throughout and more modern references, plus it has Joy Division Oven Gloves on it.
All I want for Christmas is a Dukla Prague away kit.
I left my heart in Papworth General.
and they are absolutely hilarious which is what prompted this thread - they're quite expensive on amazon so i'll have to look in fopp...
at least where i live.
odd really, i suppose that the problem with full on indie labels.
Voyage to the Bottom of the Road for me, but to be honest, just buy whichever one you can find.
get a pin or similar sharpish object, close your eyes and stick it into the written down list. Start with the one it lands on.
Fretwork Homework, Even Men Steel Hearts, Sponsoring The Moshpits and, one of the top 5 Biscuit moments, Tour Jacket with Detachable Sleeves. ...Godcore is pretty strong.
"After the Identical Cocteau Twins, came the final act, I Can’t Believe It’s Not Focus. Following a commendable stab at Sylvia, Helen shouted to the guitarist: 'Are you knackered, man?' To which he replied: 'No, I’m Jan Akkerman'."
Is the best one to get imo. I had a gander in Fopp (Manchester) and they didn't have one of their albums. That was about 6 months ago. Cheapest I found the aforementioned CD was £11.99 (Play). It's really worth it though.
they arent even on spotify but im fairly sure ill like it
but if you google Half Man Half Biscuit - Peel Sessions, you could probably find a lot of them to listen to, and then pick your favourite era from there.
or trouble over bridgwater.
back in the dhss is the only one i don't much like. the funny stuff doesn't stick and the songs drag. i didn't really get them until mcintyre, treadmore & davitt.
i think it's pretty strong. 100% Of Gargoyles..., Trumpton Riots, Fuckin' 'Ell It's Fred Titmus... etc
and decide which tracks you like from them, and find which albums they're on.
I found that the cheapest place is their website. They are all a nicely rounded £10 which is still quite pricey but cheaper than the big CD retailers.
I'd definitely start with Achtung Bono, but I'd also recommend Cammell Laird Social Club.
