might start running gigs in SE london...
but i don't know if it is worth it. i've found a great venue very very near two mainline stations running 20 minutes to and from central london and good bus services. however, there isn't a history of "proper" gigs in the area really.
with any luck it would have in-house equipment so bands could just turn up if they didn't want to bring their own and hopefully on a saturday night.
what i'd like to know is:
A: would bands want to come and play (any payment would be equal share of the door after costs)
B: would people want to come to it. and would they actually turn up.
not in it to make money, just want to get some great bands and maybe start something regular where there is currently nothing and make the bar manager happy by getting folk buying pints and stuff. planning on maybe three bands per night and maybe £3 on the door for punters. also considering filming / recording each gig for podcasts and the like.

sounds good.
where would that be?
I've been doing that in Croydon
I've got a few regulars from North London. People in Croydon don't really go though. Still...best night in zone 5.
less than zero...
Where are gigs in Croydon? There's the Black Sheep place, but otherwise I'm not aware of any decent gig places. (Apart from Fairfield Halls which hasn't had decent band since the three years I've lived in Croydon.
Considering how big the place is, why isn't there a Luminaire-type venue in Croydon?
I put a night on at Black Sheep...
Other than that Scream Studios now has a bar/gig venue which i haven't been to. I'm not too sure about proper venues now that the Cartoon has gone. I guess there aren't really any.
it would be in
penge. near crystal palace. i'm pretty sure that about 5 years ago there was a club night in the area with live bands but i don't know what the venue was.
I'd jump on a 202
it could do alright, lots of...'young professionals' about there these days, might make a change from the Gastro Pub gentrified air of despair.
What night do you put on at the sheep?
Is it the wednesday? When i went on that day it was like a weird experimental noise show. not a fan. would be awesome to have a local bands showcase there one friday once a month. Sheep plays a shite variety of music anyway..
Yeh...my night is the noise night.
Every Wednesday there is different and i think the only night with live acts.
Oh and penge is a shithole... would fear for my life on the way home
penge is ok.
not had a problem walking through there of an evening.
Ahem.

Fuck yeah
They look like they could do some real damage with those satchels.
camberwell
please
Hmm, interesting
I've been looking for a venue near Crystal P too, hope it works out well. Not too keen on Penge really though
Penge is one of my favourite places
thanks to the amazing charity shops and the French festival, plus the "A Prayer for Penge" posters.
It might just be a bit far out though, I know some folk who put some stuff on in Crystal Palace (the Alma I think) fairly regularly and that seems to have been working out well for them.
The alma is a nice little pub
and sorry if i offended you about the noise night,i was still under the impression that wednesday was just a student night came as a bit of a shock to me.
Not offended at all...
It would be silly to assume everyone would like the night. May as well do a little promotion for the next one now...
9th Decemeber Sloppy Seconds, Skat Injector, Spastic Burn Victim and Wreck of the Minotaur! Black Sheep Bar, £3.
Last noise night there/Croydon probably.
Montague Arms in New Cross
free hire, amazing venue, goldsmiths nearby.
thanks for the tip
