exciting times
what can i expect from jaga Jazzist? don't know them.
A little bit of jazz. Some beats. With the occasional soaring guitars.
Magical at ATP.
I'm pretty excited. I bought tickets on the back of them supporting. Conversely, I have very little knowledge of Efterklang. What can I expect??
i also bought tickets mainly on the back of jaga jazzist
Have given parades a few listens and it's growing on me, but the orchestra backed version sounds much more impressive:

ha
sounds pretty good.
Efterklang ummm a few delicate beats, organic melodies with the odd crescendo and harmonising vocals. plus a WHOLE FRIKKIN SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA backing it all up. should be aces.
wonderful jazz fueled instrumental goodness
one of the best live bands i've seen.
so jealous of those going to this
OH HAI
saw efterklang in leeds a few months ago
they were awesome..mainly going tonight to see jaga though, cant wait! never seen a gig at the barbican either
Blimey
I'm really thrilled so many people are excited about the Jaga end of this show. I was worried the reception for them might be a bit muted. They are a fearsome live band, with one of the greatest drummers I've ever seen.
i've heard that too..
seriously though i am fully ready to jizz in my pants if they play 'All i know is tonight' or 'Swedenborgsk rom' (or whatever its called)
bring it on!
Think you're in for a treat
In all four shows I've seen since the last album came out they started every time with 'All I Know Is Tonight' so I think it's a pretty strong bet they'll play it tonight.
If they start with it I'll go mental.
good news!
ill be there
been looking forward to this for a long time, i bum efterklang...jaga on from 8.30 a good guess? got to head into town from the burbs see.
yeah does anyone know stage times?
someone on last reckons
jaga at 8
efterklang at 9
and that other band before hand for a bit
theres another band?
these chaps apparently
http://www.last.fm/music/Sons+of+Noel+and+Adrian
aha yeah i had a look and it seems they are on in the foyer beforehand
also i doubt Jaga will be on at 8 as i think doors are at 8?
hmm..
im gonna call them
The 'doors' is the start time
The Barbican being a 'proper' concert hall an' that.
So yes - Jaga at 8.
oh
well there we have it then
Jaga Jazzist 8-8.50
Interval 8.50-9.15
Efterklang 9.15-? (don't remember if the guy said when it finished)
parades is 50 minutes long
so they'll finish about 5 past 10 (i imagine)
hopefully there'll do an encore with some non-parades songs?
some woman who can barely speak english
tells me to ring back. i can tell you that Jaga are rehearsing from 5 till 6.30. clearly she thought that i should know that.
best not hang
about after work then n get myself up there sharpish, looks to be an excellent evenings entertainment, not been to the barbican before either
I'm
Looking forward to Sons of Noel and Adrian in the Foyer most!
Had no idea Noel and Adrian were on.
Bummed out to have missed them. Efterklang was nice.
I really enjoyed Jaga Jazzist. they were fun and created soundscapes i got lost in. the drumming was particularly excellent.
Efterklang were okay. When they soared with the orchestra they were fantastic, and the singer was charming and had surprising depth to his voice. But for me they simmered a little too much, I wanted it to be more epic. Still, it was a lovely evening.
yeah
pretty good summation i reckon..
jaga's new stuff sounded amazing, and so nice to hear oslo skyline at the end. the drummer was awesome. and what a beard! Efterklang were great, some really good moments (like Illuminate) but there weren't quite enough of them. Its a shame they didn't also play some tracks off Tripper and their last E.P.
Mighty impressed with the Barbican. Cant believe its taken this long to go.. Looking forward to Grizzly Bear there on Saturday
Well summed up in the two prevoius posts.
Jaga just weren't loud enough. It seemed to me the new stuff is more similar to A Livingroom Hush than the last album. They were excellent though. I really wish I was going to Leeds.
Efterklang were OK. Thet just lost me at times.
I too am looking forward to Saturday.
yeah
My friend wanted them to be much louder too.. I thought they were a decent level but i hear what your saying. there was definitely room for some more volume
it was possibly the best gig i've ever been to
stunning
i was about four rows back with a red polo on, jagga were plenty loud for me,never heard them before, drummer was awesome and i really enjoyed it, how they come up with that stuff i dont kno, definitely picking up their albums.
i went for efterklang tho, and they didnt dissapoint. After seeing them at Bestival a few months back it was stunning to watch them with an orchestra playing through Parades, which is one of my favourite albums, just stunning stuff. Did i mention it was stunning?
p.s hugely impressed with the Barbican, such a majestic venue, can barely contain my excitement for Grizzly Bear on Saturday!!!
Jaga amazing
New stuff was superb, particularly 'Touch Of Evil' which was just majestic. What about Martin's ludicrous new beard? And I was pleased to see that, as per tradition, he threw some free t-shirts out into the crowd.
Thought Efterklang was very beautiful, and it was great to see they were having the time of their lives. I just think some of the songs are a wee bit lacking in ... something. New song in the encore was a cracker though - I had it in my head the whole way home.
i so wanted a shirt
The guy infront of me got a shirt :-(
Pretty much feel the same as most people here. Jaga Jazzist were more interesting and put in a great performance. Efterklang's sound was really enriched by the sinfonietta but you feel there might be a certain restraint in the performance probably due to the precise nature of playing with an orchestra.
yeah maybe
but i think its more to do with the style of their music.. they never really 'cut loose' as it were, certainly not in the same way that a band like Jaga do, and an orchestra can never really make up for this.. still, they were great, there are very few bands that sound anuything like them in my opinion.
Very
Good gig, not amazing and blown away but certainly really good :) Jaga Jazzist were alrightbut needed to be a bit louder be better in smaller venue for them I think.
track
hey, we hope to get Jaga back for a full UK tour around February as the new album is out Jan 25th. In the meantime we have this free track to giveaway if anyone is interested! http://www.ninjatune.net/jagajazzist
UK tour...
Yes please.
oh god yes
please please do!
I liked Jaga Jazzist but I think it was probably a bit hard to connect in a venue of that size...
...and sitting where I was. Dunno, though, they did get a bit boring after a while.
I almost fell asleep,
so boring were they.
