interesting article. maybe overestimating the importance of Spotify a bit..
I'm all in agreement that some bands have been a bit spinal tap with the mastering these days, but some bands NEED to be listened to with everything on 11. When mogwai re-released Young Team with super loud mastering it was a revelation to me, revealing sounds and textures I never knew were there. Volume is important, and some music needs a bit more of it to really work. I agree with the article about U2 though, but I think spotify should go further and just turn them down so quiet no one has to hear them.
You need to learn what compression is.
there was so much hyperbole in that blog that i need to go for a lie down to recover.
That's a bit odd, kinda interesting thou. I agree that it rather overstates the importance of spotify thou.
I'd b interested to hear how they determine what is 'loud' thou, average signal volume?
