Green Day - Warning

badmanreturns [Edit] [Delete] 25 replies 12:53, 15 October '09

So I just found myself humming 'Church On Sunday' and decided to give this record a spin to see if it'd cure my cold. It hasn't, but it's a seriously solid album. I'm pretty sure it's got a really bad rep, and I don't really see why. Especially considering pretty much everything Green Day have released since. Not their best, cos that's probably Nimrod, but still a great album, yeah? Let's have some love for Green Day.

  • I will always have a soft spot for Green Day

There are a few bangers on Warning, but collectively it's a really poor record.

    Green Days Best albums =

    -Dookie
    -Insomniac

Warning is a turkey - i havent followed them since.

  • someone please buy my copy of Insomniac

i'm poor. It's 49p on ebay. 49p is all I ask. Ah got fiiiive kids ta feed.

The kid at school with the enterprising pirate cdr business gave me a copy of warning as a start. And man was it boring. Not one good song on it that was better than anything they'd done before.

Actually that kid still owes me two copied Fishbone cds. He took my fiver!!!!

    • Its worth keeping for 'Walking Contradiction'

i agree the rest is cack though...

      • Hmmmm

Jaded, Tightwad Hill, Armitage Shanks, Brat, Westbound Sign.
Insomniac is probably my favorite GD record so I might not be being objective.

        • I liked the whole album at the time

just dont think it's aged well, 'Walking Contradiction' is the only song i could listen to nowadays

  • Nimrod's always been my favourite.

Got some really awesome stuff on it, like Platypus and Last Ride In, King For A Day and Jinx... (ONE TWO THREE FOUR!) fuck it, the whole thing is brilliant, not a duffer on that album.

Warning was ok, only a few standout tracks like Jackass, Misery, Church on Sunday and Minority.

    shucks | 15 Oct '09, 13:05 | X
    • Minority is not only one of the worst songs released by Green Day

It's also one of the worst songs ever released by anyone, ever. And it was the lead single off 'Warning', which tells you all you need to know about that album.

      spiritofjazz @shucks | 15 Oct '09, 13:44 | X
      • No way, Minority rules dude

        accordian an' all.

        JohnM @spiritofjazz | 15 Oct '09, 18:04 | X
  • no no noooo

its a limp dick all the way through,
Dookie > Insomniac >>> Nimrod >>>>>>>>>>>>>> Warning >>>>>>>>> American Idiot

    inside-outside | 15 Oct '09, 13:10 | X
    • Don't rate Kerplunk then?

      JohnM @inside-outside | 15 Oct '09, 13:38 | X
      • Or the first album?

        I think they're both great.

        brokenchairs @JohnM | 15 Oct '09, 13:40 | X
        • ive not heard either of them

i wasnt ever a massive GD fan really, even in the olden days

          inside-outside @brokenchairs | 15 Oct '09, 13:48 | X
          • i loved the Warning album

its alot more grown up sounding that their other stuff. My favourite is probably Insomniac though.

            ianc21 @inside-outside | 15 Oct '09, 16:25 | X
            • It'll always be Dookie for me I think

I don't listen to Green Day much anymore, but when I was 14 I pretty much listened to nothing but that album for an entire summer.

              brokenchairs @ianc21 | 15 Oct '09, 16:26 | X
  • It's not terrible, but compared to their earlier albums it's very average IMO.

It was the beginning of the end for me.

    JohnnyMac | 15 Oct '09, 16:34 | X
  • I too have always had a soft spot for Green Day, even now!

But Warning is easily the worst in the catalogue. Bar a couple of songs it was just such an average album.

    absolutpepper | 15 Oct '09, 16:42 | X
  • it's probably my favourite Green DAy album

I never cared for them much during my teeny punk years (i was an Offspring boy) but the MORiness of this makes for pleasant housework background music

    soapy | 15 Oct '09, 17:47 | X
  • i thought it was widely accepted

that Dookie is the best green day album.

    pheripheral | 15 Oct '09, 17:55 | X
    • i tihnk for everyone over 15/outside the american idiot generation

      it has to be.
maybe i'll listen to it on the walk home tonight, i know the songs are good but it did have a ubiquity amongst my peers that made me really resent it at the time.

      soapy @pheripheral | 15 Oct '09, 18:01 | X
  • Minority is my favourite Green Day song ever.

    FuzzFoxx | 15 Oct '09, 18:09 | X
  • Remember when Warning came out

and Green Day were all like 'yeah, we've grown out of that bratty pop-punk thing, we'll leave that shit to Blink 182' and then Warning sold really poorly and they released American Idiot?

    DanielKelly | 15 Oct '09, 18:15 | X
  • i used to really rate warning

but I haven't listened to it in literally years. Looking back, it was a fairly solid album but a long way short of being as good as the best bits on Dookie or Nimrod. This thread has made me listen to old Green Day stuff on spotify. It still sounds good!

    OceanStorm | 15 Oct '09, 18:23 | X
    • except Warning :-)

      JonnyRockstar @OceanStorm | 15 Oct '09, 19:24 | X
  • I agree

this album's pretty solid. 'Waiting' in particular is great.

    manpark | 15 Oct '09, 19:19 | X
  • Warning is not a 'turkey'

If you consider where the band themselves were when it was written and released, you understand why it was a bit more 'lo-fi'.

In my opinion, it's one of the best albums they've done and the album I listen to least is actually American Idiot.

    IMO:
    Kerplunk > Dookie > Warning > 1,038/Smoothed Out Slappy Hours > Nimrod/Insomniac > 21st Century Breakdown > American Idiot

BUT I love everything they've ever done, so I think it's all great. but, push comes to shove, that's my order of merit. don't think there is much between Nimord and Insomiac personally.
