Its good to have it back
he calls out chipmunk and talks to peverelist
I was thinking about this the other day, I reckon DiS should have poached him for the last few months :)
Looking forward to reading the Peverelist interview, can't as work has Pitchfork blocked but he's pretty much my favourite producer and I'm psyched about the album and new material on Punch Drunk. I can't see the Idle Hands tracks being anyone else's either (the A side of that is purely his style, gradually shifting techno/dubstep stuff). Proper nice guy as well, Rooted's right down the road from me and I've drunkenly cornered him at nights in Bristol. Wire did an interesting interview with him late last year where he spoke a little about his influences and how they effect the stuff he produces, but he doesn't seem to do many interviews so it'll be good to hear more.
he's quality, I think I've got most his 12"s now and they never disapoint. I'm playing his Hyetal remix quite alot recently its so diffrent from everything else, really twisting, flowing digital almost psychadlic stuff. I heard Ramadanman/Ben UFO drop the B side to the Idle Hands 12" at home it kind of sounds like a techno record but fuck me its twisted on a big system the bass grooves are all of centre to the kick drum and you get this mad groove going on that really throws you off.
The new 'album' or what he calls a collection of tracks is called Jarvik Mindstate.
Does he say when the album's going to be out?
there doesn't seem to be a date for it yet, I'm pretty sure Guido's 12" is coming out next. It sounds like it might be this year by the way they are talking about it but who knows.
I'd definitely prefer Pev's next but it'll definitely do.
its maybe a year ago I heard it on that Guido mix, cant wait to finaly have it. Its an insane year for dubstep-ish long players in Pev's comes this year.
2562, Hyperdub 5, RSD, Silkie, Clubroot, King Midas Sound, Tectonic Plates Vol.2, King Midas Sound, FaltyDL, Zomby, HudMo, Terror Danjah... LOADS more!
I still haven't got round to listening to Silkie, but will have to make time at some point. HudMo's 'Butter' is all over my mp3 player at the moment, though I still can't entirely decide how much I like it.
but keep seeing mixed reveiws.
Silkie's is great, pretty long mind. I love his style he gets things moving.
Joker should maybe drop his. Gemmy's been workin on one for a while. Burial's new one might happen but I dunno. Breakage's is on the way and that has a Burial colab on it apparently. Skream's is in the works and should be cool. Starkey's is coming early next year and the new bits I've heard him play out sound ace, there are even lots of original vocal bits. F and some of the 7even crew are doing albums I think they will be worth a look. Jack Sparrow is working on one for either 'Earwax or Tectonic I can't remember but its one of the Pinch labels. Loads of suprises to no doubt....
I saw Joker b2b with Skream in Bristol the other night and it was intense, his new material is absolutely massive so his album should be a big one.
I think all the 7evnen guys are working on albums for next year, I'm interested to see what they come up with.
I heard that Joker & Skream went off! Alot of Skreams new bits sound really good it should be interesting.
I even forgot to mention Martyn's album for this years dubstep album picks how did I manage that! He's doing a Fabirc mix cd for early next year as well.
The Blackdown column is spot on, as ever. The Peverelist interview is really worth reading, glad P4k have decided to bring him back again...
its the way of the indie website, they love the olden days. They bumpped him earlyer in the year too for no apparent reason though its been a shit year for them doin that really.
Martyn's fabric will be ever so techno-y yeah, megadrive generation from the hyperdub comp is licensed to fabric acording to the 12" so I'm guessing thats on it. Plus I've seen him biggin up Roska on twitter, I think it was Roska it was definatly a funky dude, for putting his track in the mix.
chipmunk doesn't come over very well in those tweets. think he was alright at first, but his recent stuff is horrible.
Esperanto's on it! Plus loads of new tunes - the new ones on the vinyl edition with Clunk Click Every Trip and Infinity Is Now on the CD as well. I can see this release doing a lot to expose him outside the vinyl-buying lot and into the people who'd usually just buy CDs.
02. Revival ft. Pinch
04. Jarvik Mindstate
05. Yesterday I Saw The Future
06. Infinity Is Now
07. Not Yet Further Than
09. Clunk Click Every Trip
Can't wait :)
and I bought a pinch 12" there, no idea it was peverelist's shop or that he was once pinch's housemate. Coincidences are fun.
