It was never going to be exactly replicated live, because of the pretty electronic nature of the album, but they've done a good job of translating it I think. Not sure about the slap bass, but then it's Flea, and I just listened, didn't watch.
I wouldn't say it's 'ruined', unless ruined=different.
the arrangement is the same as the latitude performance but just with hyper drums.
I do like it though. But then again i would/
To be more fair:
1) It sounds exactly the same as on the record and is therefore good.
2) People who have bizarre prejudice against one particular unnamed technique for an instrument are equal parts white-supremacist and Luddite, and therefore retards. Unsurprisingly they're also the same people who think that some bearded guy with an acoustic guitar bitching about girls is the height of musical achievement.
The slap bass, is almost identical to the record.
To be extra fair the ending is magnificent.
he's actually only playing the high "plucked" notes. the thumb isn't actually slapping at all. musician talking here.
thats fucking awesome
i love flea
he is so funky
Paperbag Writer sounds pretty amazing:
on one hand it'd typically unpredictable of him and quite cool.
on another hand it's kind of embarrassing and er, open-shirted.
can certainly shake that ass....
'cause of the stuff people have been saying about Flea's going shirtless tendencies n' stuff not fitting in with Thom Yorke's 'tasteful restraint'.
I think it is one of the most beautiful songs Thom has ever written, but I love what they've done with it here.
