I'm betting it's all of them. I just realized I heard this asinine platitude for like the millionth time.
How many more are there? When will it stop?
but what about all the third rate indie bands yelling "what did you expect?!"
which amounts to the same thing i suppose.
I'm not interested in a pseudo-intellectual discourse on the "true meaning" of "emo." What the fuck else am I going to call these crappy bands that all sound the same? I'll stick with emo until someone comes up with something better.
can't you call them pseudo-emo or something?
Do you have some sort of interest in "defending the integrity of emo" or some shit? Why does it bother you? What makes them "not emo?" How are they "pseudo?"
i have in interest in people using language in a clear and intelligible manner. it confuses me when people use emo to refer to bands which don't play emo.
because lenghty, drawn-out arguments about what 'emo' is are really fucking dull.
Then again, they're a music board staple and we haven't had one for a while so maybe it's about time someone re-opened that poorly-sealed can of worms. Asking what makes them "not emo" is a little bit daft; what makes them not pyschedelia, or krautrock, or New Romantic, or blues, or R'n'B, or any other ultimately inadequate genre?
For what it's worth, bands like those above aren't what I'd call emo and despite loving mid-Western 90s American whinging, I'm still fairly liberal with what I do think can legitimately be called emo.
until a coworker schooled me:
Damn. Well now I know.
I have counted.
