The Big Pink - Dominos
This is the worst single i've heard in a very long time.
Is this some kind of fucking joke? Is everyone waiting for me to join in and say i like it, and then they'll turn round and laugh at me?

I agree.
Terrible.
It's the worst track on the album (but I wouldn't say terrible; it's ok)
but also the most "accessible" - que no?
i hate it so much
reminds me of animal collective
^ classic troll posting there
and i almost bought it!
Even a lot of the people who like the album
dislike Dominos
i like the album a lot
i like dominos. doesn't mean i'm wrong, doesn't mean i'm right. it's a good radio tune.
but by no means does it need to branded ''the worst single for a long time'' - for one Chaka Demus grates on me.
maybe he's
just not heard many singles for a very long time.
Dominos is, however, the worst thing since MGMT.
Oh, that's who the Big Pink are.
I just saw their name around places and assumed they were like, some kind of noise-punk band. The name reminds me of a vagina.
I was gutted
When I find out they sounded nothing like The Band.
Dominos sounds like it has been made to soundtrack Sky Sports.
There's so much stupid in this thread already
I might actually weep for the hope of mankind. Don't worry, the_dazzled. We're already laughing at you.
apparently..
the track has changed a lot since it first became part of TBP's live set. I assume it was to make something from their album a little more radio-friendly.. all i will say is that it does improve with time.. honest injun
'Tonight' is worse
I'm just upset there's no song on that album that sounds like Velvet apart from Velvet. I had such high hopes for them after hearing that track
Tonight is appalling
in comparison to the rest of the album — almost delete-worthy, even.
Great single
Great album - lovely sounds throughout for those able to listen.
Agree entirely with the amount of sheepish stupidity on here!
I like most of the album from what I've heard,
but Dominos is certainly no Velvet.
Also, what's the basic sentiment? "I'm a bit shit at long-term relationships, me". Great. Thanks for sharing.
Can we talk about Lust for Life by Girls some more, please? and then go on to talk about how ace Stricken City are.
There's actually a lot of really interesting noise going on in Dominos
I was very disappointed when I first heard it, especially coming after Velvet, but since then I've heard it a lot, and through headphones it sounds fantastic. It's just got a bit of cringe-worthy melody line.
Re. the basic sentiment: the album is "a brief history of love". The sentiment is not only appropriate but necessary.
why are people so pissed that a band with obvious ambition decided to make a radio friendly song
i mean jesus christ the album in parts is excellent the opening track,to young to love, velvet, all pretty special tracks falls down a bit with the poor tonight and frisk but is by no means a poor album some people on this website are so full of shit
but there's a difference between making a radio friendly song
and making a song that sounds like the twang.
god only knows is radio friendly....they could've done soemthing that was as good as that.
Oh boy, the weekly Big Pink hate-thread. This so hasn't gotten old yet.
Good work.
Yep it's awful.
I heard this on Radio 1 a few times but always missed who it was by. When I discovered it was by The Big Pink I was particularly confused given how much hype and positive press they've been getting.
Just truly truly terrible...
does it ...
....sound a bit like hard-fi in places?
does it?
they're an ok band. average song. thats being nice. it's a stinker.
Hard Fi
...or Kasabian.
(sorry for mentioning Kasabian)
I'm mightily amused that most of the defense of this band 'round these parts appears to be basically, "people who don't like this are dicks" (which may or may not be the case, but if they are Dicks they are at least Correct and Just Dicks) without really justifying the group's continued existence in any positive way. Certainly, I agree - there are much, much better tracks on the album but, as has been mentioned above, they clearly wished to present a more radio friendly face to try and shift some units. Nothing wrong with that, though there is also nothing wrong with my subsequently pointing out that this move smacks (not Heroin, although...) of nothing but vile, money-grabbing short term greed on the part of the band members. I can't imagine you sign to 4AD and are immediately under pressure to chart or anything. They apparently wished that Creation Records was still around so they could share a label with some of their greatest influences (Kasabian - sorry - would be on Creation, you knows it) and, in some way, this is fitting should you consider the latter day Creation roster - the sad home to pale imitations of the past, desperate to reclaim the glories of ten, now twenty, years ago.
Seriously, why the strong feelings either way about this band? Krist.
The reason those defending Dominos might be suggesting
that people who don't like the song might have some kind of deep defection and don't feel the need to justify said sentiment or the song is because the people with broken ears and souls haven't exactly been forthcoming with their justification for said ludicrous and laughable hate.
To call the song 'radio friendly' as some kind of derogatory term is assinine in a multitude of ways. Chiefly, the suggestion that something that breaks the airwaves and receives a reasonable ammount of play is inherently 'a bad thing' is nothing but solipsistic musical snobbery of the first order. Music like Dominos almost never makes it to the charts. Right now, there are minds being blown by Dominos. That, my musical loving friends who likely despair at the state of the modern charts, is what we call progress. Much of the hate, I'd wager, is from 'former fans' who 'prefered the raw demo tracks and earlier mixes' and who are now horrified that 'their discovery' is now being played on Radio 1 and ohmygodpeoplelikeit. So lo and behold, out come the 'SELLOUT!' remarks. What a fucking surprise.
There's also the small fact that there simply isn't anything remotely like Dominos out there right now. It's a Noise/Shoegaze track. On the fucking radio. During the day.
Attempts to belittle the song and the band with Hard-Fi/Kasabian or whatever useless analogies thought up by trumped up little trolls masturbating furiously under their desks are completely off-mark and utterly irrelevant. You don't like the song/band? That's fine. Just don't make shit up to justify it.
Wow.
Give this man a hug. HE. NEEDS. IT.
The Big Pink sound like Hard-Fi?
Must get me some Hard-Fi records.
It's boring, turgid, dreadful, dreary shite.
Which is a shame 'cos I quite like some of the album.
