love it. the brass, the breakbeats, the hooks, the ambition.
if I had to bet on one person being able to conquer ALL SOUND KNOWN TO MAN....
...it would probably be him.
All in favour?
youtube link for anyone with an aversion to p4k http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6kfPmInRLts
every little hit counts
love love love
Being really good at the moment due to a lack of singer songwriters clogging up the indie airwaves?
to save it from cynics who tar singer songwriters with the same brush
I don't dislike him. And I'm actually booting this up now.
But I hardly think music needs 'saving' right now.
I think this year has shat all over 2008 personally album wise.
i'd give it at least a 7.6
i think since In Rainbows and MPP, we've lacked those "big" releases, which are exciting purely because they're events. a few coming up i think, new LCD, possibly sufjan.. communal excitement ftw.
if the rest of his next LP will be as good as this and Majesty Snowbird he can take as long as he wants
looking forward to next song based album though...hopefully next year
the orchestral one is lovely though
I think the title thread is more a joke about sufjans prolonged inactivity rather than a serious statement on the quality of the song, I think he is someone who deserves the hype, he is a skilled songwritter, composer/arranger (dunno what the right word is), he is ambitious, at home with electronic and traditional music, he is definitely a cut above his ilk
and that's what it's all about.
if you break down music into parts, eg "nice sounding guitar" then essentially it becomes about who can write better.
obvs it's cool that you personally're not into that sound.
A comparison of Sufjan to Dave Matthews is blatant trolling. The guy is a great songwriter and a talented arranger, he just doesn't happen to be to your taste.
inspires uberpretentious fey praise. who knew.
and angel wings is a good start
clearly done for a laugh/amusement.
for fuck's sake I don't care if yr Sufjan's biggest reacharound fan....you've got to admit that he's just a tad pretentious in his musical ideals. A laugh? Yes, he's a regular Dom Deluise on stage.
he is just a solid ambitious songwriter with a skill for arrangements, who has interesting and well researched ideas for his music, that he executes it extremely well. He seems like a fairly modest, and sincere the opposite of pretentious. And angel wings, boyscout uniforms, human pyramids of cheerleaders are as close as you are going to get to a laugh at a gig
salt of the earth guy to me.
it's been way too long.
surely he can't go six years between US State albums after all.
It was just a gag. He only did albums on the two state's he's lived in for significant periods of time, Illinois and Michigan.
won't even be a state themed one.
..everyone was to catch on..ahem:
yes, i have no...
http://bit.ly/4ogF8 He's only talking about the BQE, not the new stuff, but he's pretty stunningly poetic as ever...
I mean it's pretty good and if it's about the medium standard of the new album then I'm sure the album'd be pretty good too but if this was one of the best things on there I reckon I'd be a little underwhelmed, if that makes sense.
...the tune on Dark Was The Night? That was pretty away blowing I thought.
