else on here that someone thought Wild Beasts would win it....
was eligible for the on just gone. Unless they're planning another album in the next 9 months
was up for the Neptune instead
First album was nominated, great new tunes on new one.
Albums released this far from the deadline very rarely get nominated. Glasvegas only managed it on the back of six months or more fervent press hype, far more than the XX or Wild Beasts (a relatively ignored album commercially) have had or will ever have.
And should win for The Fun Powder Plot alone, which is the best song I've heard this year
probably have a better indication around april/may which albums will get nominated.
They cream themselves over Alex Turner, and Hawley's new one is simply stunning.
I am going to win it.
There can be no doubt.
(well, actually...) but isn't all this Mercury-gazing a little sad? It's like we've moved from music as a competition (top 40 charts) to... music as a competition (Mercury). I read a review this week that said something to the effect of "Hopefully the judges of next year's Mercury see fit to pay some attention to this record". It made me sick. Why this frankly bizarre need for validation from this gonzo panel who have no higher qualification to judge the merits of records than any one of you? It's a media farce.
