So, how long before Muse realise they've messed up the production and re-release The Resistance professionally?
I'd accept most of the album as it is despite certain flaws but Unnatural Selection should sound so much bigger than it does. We've had another potential New Born or Stokholm Syndrome taken away from us and I'm not bloody happy about it.
I've never been so frustrated by the production of a song in my life, anybody else feel the same? And do you think it's a realistic possibility for Muse to re-release it at some point? I probably need some kind of minor miracle for this to happen.
Ive not heard this yet
but aslong as its under baked not over baked (death magnet) then yeah why not.
I personally think the production on this song.....
is brilliant. the meltdown in the middle is amazing.
It's a great song, all the ingredients are there to make it an instant Muse classic
but the production is rather restricting.
Don't get me wrong I still love it and it'll probably be killer live. I get the feeling I'll remember it as the best track on an ordianry (in the context of what they have done before) album, yet when my inevitable Muse compilation is made (I do one after every release) it might not sound so special amongst all their better material.
You're so right it hurts.
However, I think MK Ultra can also be the potential New Born/SS you're talking about. The production on that track, particularly in its latter stages, makes it probably the best thing since Stockholm Syndrome.
As for Unnatural Selection, I think it's the only part of the album that needs re-working. That it's still a highlight despite the production flaws shows what a brilliant song it is.
i hear what you are driving at
but i think what you have to bare in mind is:
when they wrote/recorded new born they were playing clubs/halls and were much scruffier in sound. same to stockholm syndrome, that was written pre arena.
i do love muse, and i really enjoy the new album, but i would love to hear them get the dead star/ashamed sound going a little more on the next one.
It would have to be a conscious "fuck you" to the mainstream
I don't think they'll ever sound the same again, how often do bands truly go back to what they once were after this much mainstream success? It doesn't happen very often, that's for sure.
Maybe it's time for Bellamy to either go solo, or do some colaboration work with other artists and put his work with Muse to one side for a while.
Before every Muse album now
I hope for more Dead Star/SS/Citizen Erased style songs but it's not going to happen now.
i think maybe you are being a bit harsh on them
it was evident to everyone from black holes the place they were going, they are evidently a band who do things for themselves and do not look back. how many other bands would be able to shelve songs like muscle museum or the small print from their setlist? not many. i think the new album is brilliant, no it's not origin of symmetry or the sugar rush of absolution, but it's excellent. i personally really enjoy undisclosed desires and think it sounds like a good version of endlessly. talk of an ep at the end of this year too - good stuff!
mate
a) it's no St.Anger and that hasn't been sorted yet
b) new born is one of the crappiest muse songs anyway
haha!
st anger - what a turkey.
the albums a crock of shite

maybe they don't want it to sound like Newborn?
I was listening to SS, Hysteria and the Origin stuff yesterday, and they do sound MASSIVE, but if the dads who bought a copy in Tesco heard that song with the riff beefed up more they'd probably be put off.
Plus the song stands out a lot already in contrast with the rest of the album, if the riff was bigger it would probably be completely out of place.
I think the whole album needs tweaking
As in, recalled and not released until it's actually good.
