not that the first was bad at all, it sounded cold like it was recorded in a huge igloo at the north pole which suited the mood of the record very well, where as the new record sounds like it was recorded on a distant planet made of fire.
i think generally reviews have said it's not as strong as the first record but i disagree, they've got much better at as a band and it's more experimental than the first yet more melodic too.
I've got to say, I'm not really digging the first track so much, but 'Die Slow' is so brilliant that it immediately makes me forget that. Plus the video for 'Die Slow' is some kind of fucking super badass! :D
But did tend to strip them of the energy they have live, whereas the new one does a great job of translating how intense they are onstage. Still doesn't quite match seeing them live, but the songs stand up very strongly in their recorded versions, unlike the first album where the songs just sounded so much better in the live setting.
I did wonder as pretty much the only reason I checked Clash was to scope out your opinion on stuff - I hadn't seen your name mentioned for a while. Keep up the good work!
but when I listened to Get Colour a few times I just found it a bit unnecessary and noise for noise's sake. Maybe I'm just being a girl about it all...
Like I said though, Die Slow is ace and the artwork for the record is brilliant.
its just that riff in Die Slow it really sounds like them and I cant shake it, I'm hoping they blast that idea out of me by playing it live right in my face next month when I go see um.
I'm looking forward to hearing this
how's it different from the first album?
More melodic.
They're as noisy as ever, but I find melodies from this album getting stuck in my head constantly, not the case with the s/t.
i think the production is much warmer

an album of the year for me too.
It's excellent

i really really like it
more so than the first...
It's an improvement on the first in pretty much every way
Great, great album. Severin is possibly the best thing they've ever written.
lookin forward to getting this
is the cd out anytime soon? I'll grab it then
i got my physical copy in the post on friday
on vinyl, but i think the cd was out at the same time.
I think it's out today
nice one you too
I'll have to have a look around for it.
for some reason I was able to buy this last week... I think it may have been an import.
Anyways according to play.com it's out today...
sweeeeeet
it will go in my next order then, I mean my next order that isnt a million dubstep 12"s.
Haha
Yeah it was on sale in Rough Trade East yesterday so it's definitely out...
being totally blown out
by them live, and regarding the first album as mostly unlisteneable, I find these news of growing up encouraging and will be buying the record asap.
The recording of the first album was atmospheric

Almighty JAG
Every little helps, and I have no shame.

Whoa..
Are you working for the BBC now Mike? Still working at Clash...?
Which means I don't do Clash anymore.
.
Awesome, nice review Mike
And nice work on writing with the BBC now!
I'm BBC album reviews editor.
True fact.
Ahhh excellent!
I did wonder as pretty much the only reason I checked Clash was to scope out your opinion on stuff - I hadn't seen your name mentioned for a while. Keep up the good work!
Excellent work, congrats!
DiS JAG!
We're putting them on in Sheffield...

This is going to be great. Hopefully they'll give another shout-out to Mike!
If I could come, I would.
My first experience of the Harley was a pretty messy one, mind.
The DrownedinSound cocktail was pretty lethal
A souped-up version (that is to say, more alcoholic, not containing soup) is in development as we speak.
I'M GOING AGAINST THE TIDE HERE
Die Slow is great but they're a bit silly really...
Silly?
I dunno, it's not 'my thing' at all so I probably shouldn't get involved
but when I listened to Get Colour a few times I just found it a bit unnecessary and noise for noise's sake. Maybe I'm just being a girl about it all...
Like I said though, Die Slow is ace and the artwork for the record is brilliant.
die slow is an absolutely massive track
the video is pretty cool too.
can't wait to see them at the garage nxt month.
I just got the only copy for sale in northampton
so it seems. Can't wait to hear it all tonight :)
I still think Die Slow is a bit to much like Kasabian
not feeling it yet maybe it will sit better in an album... of Kasabians...
If only Kasabian could make records like this...
indeed
its just that riff in Die Slow it really sounds like them and I cant shake it, I'm hoping they blast that idea out of me by playing it live right in my face next month when I go see um.
same here
although i do my best to ignore the likeness, im hoping too the live version knocks all likeness out of me.
