love Cale-era VU, I actually listened to 'The Velvet Underground' and 'Loaded' recently and found myself really enjoying them. Can very much hear the influence on Orange Juice and the likes in there. Not anywhere near as brooding or dark as the Cale albums, but they don't try to be.
All in all, mighty good, I think.
I slightly prefer the first two albums, but the latter two are pretty great still.
Well worth picking up.
are my favourites. Respect to my B-Boy Cale though.
gorgeous records both; the third VU is lovely and quiet, almost revelling in the peace that Cale's absence brings. The fourth is VU doing classic rock as they couldn't (I don't think) with him on board. As much as I am a fan of the noise he brings to the first two records I am as much a lover of the latter two where his absence is noticeable, or even preferable.
