DiScover mixtapes - thoughts?
http://drownedinsound.com/in_depth/4137820-discover-mixtape-1
Is this a better way of dealing with new music than the DiScover column pieces? Would you prefer just to get a selection like this and have a listen?
Or do you want more writing/interviews with new acts?
The age old question... again.
Thoughts on the 'tape format = appreciated. Ta.

Could you not put them together as music-only podcast?
That costs loadsamoney
A commodity we don't possess...
Really?
REALLY? CMG manage it; I don't see how they can be any better endowed than DiS. Can't you just ask artists/labels for permission on an individual basis (I'm assuming that's what CMG do)?
Link pls
I remember Sean saying the cost of doing any sort of podcast was prohibitively expensive...

nice
I quite like this format. Although, it's quite a lot to take in in one go. Not sure what I prefer, but I'm certainly not against the mixtape format.
uh huh
I was struggling to keep it down to ten! I think that's quite a good number. But I sort of see what you mean. Maybe it could be split into Side A and Side B, like a REAL tape?
Back, way back before the internet "mixtapes" were how I Discovered new music
friends would share them and try to turn people on to exciting prospects.
Yeah, I think this is very cool
I enjoy it a lot
I still make a lot of effort with CD mixes for people, and it's nice to have new music in that sort of format. It's a great way of being turned on to new material.
Interviews? No.
Speaking for myself, I'm only interested in the personalities behind acts I *already* enjoy.
Writing? Yeah, of course. It's still how I filter through new music.
DiS mixtape? Yeah, brilliant. Couple 'o one liners and here ya go... perfect.
PS: *ahem* You shoulda included a track from Washed Out ep, Rob. (I spend 4 hours downloading shit to find that! It's not my fault PF found 'em first...fuckers.)
Oops
My bad. Had to narrow it down to ten, though, and yours slipped through the net. But there's always next time.
I think #2 could follow in a week's time, got a few for it already.
I like it
good bits in there, Golau Gloa and Nosaj Thing are both brilliant, I liked the bite sized chunks of this it would be cool to mix it up a bit and do bigger articles and interviews as well though when they're needed. Its a shame you cant do a podcast though that would be ideal for discover bits, could you try and take over a radio show some time? Then we could just all tape it at home and it wouldn't be your responsibility. In fact you could just mock up an annonamus podcast in a radio show style grab a new user name post it on the boards then link to the board post in a DiS article and it would be sorted, just deleate the thread if questions get asked a week later. ORIGINAL PIRATE MATERIAL YOU'RE LISTING TO DIS LOCK DOWN YOU ARIEL!
it was a bit good that you managed to put up a mix last week though

really really didn't expect that, shame you probibly couldn't do that with indie music.
I'd rather have articles/interviews with emerging artists.
Then go and find some audio clips if I like the sounds of something.
Can't you get well known dj's to do mixes for the site like FACT do? I don't just mean dance dj's. For instance you could get Animal Collective to do a mix/podcast of stuff that they are into currently.
