They Were Wrong, So We Drowned
seems to be a classically divisive album this - Rolling Stone compared it to Metal Machine Music when it came out, many called it unlistenable crap...and then after Drum's Not Dead a lot of people seemed to revise their opinion.
me, i think it's class, just wondering what others on here think of it, particularly Liars fans or fans of Drum's Not Dead

I like it
but 'they threw us all in a trench..' is still my favourite xD
I only really got into Liars fairly recently, so I guess I was unaware of these opinions. HMM INTERESTING

Cheers
I might give this another listen now, although I'm unsure as to whether this will help me do any work at this time of the day.. :D
I didn't like it much at the time
But I adore it now. For some reason, even though 'Drums not dead' is a weirder album in my eyes, I got into that easier and then found TWWSWD more listenable upon revisiting it.
They haven't really done a bad recod. I wasn't sure I liked 'Liars' or those myspace demos at the time, but even they've grown on me massively.
I ought to regard them as one of the top 10 bands around really. Maybe I will do from now on...
Apparently
I regard them as the 5th best band around http://www.last.fm/user/tomatron
:D
Drum's Not Dead is my favourite Liars album
I should probably listen to ...Drowned a bit more. Are they close to releasing anything new? I kind of hope they record something a little less normal than the last self-titled album. It suits them better.
it's incredible
disturbing, intelligent, disorientating, danceable.
i love all the chanting in it, and the erudition/fun of the lyrics at the same time, and the parody cover art for the There's Always Room On The Broom single with the Einsturzende Neubauten man in a witches hat on a broomstick.
I'm listening to this right now
It's freaking excellent. THERE'S EVEN SOME COWBELL!
I prefer this to Drums Not Dead.
When it came out I would listen to it, Spiderland and Halloween by Sonic Youth in a rotation for spookyness. They Were Wrong is a great album - even if just for the song titles!
Rolling Stone don't know what they're talking about.
It's quite tuneful really.
Even if you don't like it
the idea that it's in any way "unlistenable" is bare breeze, man. It's hardly Merzbow.
Yeah but this is Rolling Stone we're talking about
what did they say about punk again?
oh yeah, they completely missed it..
Fly, fly, the devil's in your eye, shoot shoot
WE'RE DOOMED, WE'RE DOOMED!
Class album.
I just came back to this thread to post this
it's much more enjoyable than I remember. Funny how giving an album a break can do it good sometimes.
blood...blood...
blood...blood...blood... etc.
Ya'h it's my favourite Liars LP.
...
they were wrong so we drowned is my fave Liars album too. But more importantly that that, it's a massive, crying shame that this band never seem to come much further north of London whenever they come over to Blighty.
WFOGWTBOOO , More Room On The Broom
two of the greatest songs this decade
I remember at the time it came out
that many critics had declared it "too noisy/abrasive". It always struck me as odd that Drums not Dead received such accolades when it is really not that far of a step from We Were Wrong.
Machine Metal Music? Hardly, I would say it is closer to This Heat. Moments of quiet & noise, rather than the full on assault that is MMM.
Anywho, the most recent self titled one was somewhat underwhelming, huh? Not bad but kind of scaled down when compared to Drums not Dead & We Were Wrong.
