Radiohead
Bumsnogger
what do you mean?
He means
Who *is* the best band in the world.
Only three years to come up with that one
Konrad Kujau & the Hitler Diaries.
Absolutely fucking amazing live - as soon as they release their first single they're gonna be massive.
any links to their stuff
couldn't see a myspace or anything... The name is awful though.
They don't have any web presence.
They're trying - probably foolishly - to disprove the theory you need a web presence to succeed as a band these days. But they are such a good band they might just get away with it.
The name's not great - obviously it relates to the famous hoax (Konrad Kujau was the guy who perpetrated it) so there's the historical reference there but I'd agree in itself it's not a great sounding band name.
they sound like a bunch of
pretentious nob cheeses.
have to agree with Nick
I've heard of other bands trying to negate the purpose of the internet for promotional purposed. Its really not big nor clever. The could earnt a few new fans here alone!
Nailed that prediction
Can't move for Konrad Kujau & the Hitler Diaries magazine covers
Maroon 5?
Animal Collective.
Yeah, I said it.
Estradasphere
For me, currently (though liable to change)
Vetiver
this many boyfriends
Sunn O)))
obviously :-/
came hjere to say this.
true fact/
shit name though
Nope
But there Dad has a house in Ireland.
I'm only interested if he owns 8 cars and all of them are lexuses
(lexii?)
Bill Hicks alert!!!
Mclusky*
Animal Collective
they just are.
pile of wank live though
so no..
one of the best live acts of the last 10 years
Oceansize
If they'd stopped at Effloresce, then they'd have a chance!
One of the greatest debut albums of all time. Criminally under appreciated by the masses.
motherfuckin' deerhunter
wouldn't argue with deerhunter
YEEEESSSS Deerhunter
Radiohead
No change for the last 14 or so years then...
Its almost boring to say it,
but watching that Reading set on the box just confirmed it all over again.
Effortless class - five men happy and comfortable with the fact that they are the best band in the world by some distance.
^This, and ^This again.
the downside to radiohead fans is they are stuck in their ways...
just like thrash metal fans of the late 80's early 90's are today. its not a personal thing ive seen radiohead myself at glastonbury '03, ive heard all but 2 of their albums, the bends & ok computer are their best albums but everything else does have that spark the the bends & ok computer had, which leads me to the opinion that there is no creative evidence that they're the best band in the world (sales, yes i accept that).
Like with the 'Big 4' (Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth or Anthrax) they were the biggest bands in the world at the time selling absurd amounts of albums, and Metallica fans will stand by them no matter what (RE: see Lulu!!!!), however Slayer were by far and still are the best LIVE band of the Big 4, Megadeth had the better albums, and Anthrax were lucky enough to hang onto the band wagon.
***does not have that spark
^ this is the most sense i've seen spoken on here in a good while.
Saw them at Leeds last night, no one comes remotely close right now.
there are couple more "new" bands that i enjoy listening to, but...
...Radiohead are above all other bands that have ever existed so far. If there is one reason I am happy to live in the last two decades, it's thanks to them.
:D
mmm
Mudhoney & No Age
Pissed Jeans
Cobras Cobras Cobras
I had a weird dream about Cobras Cobras Cobras: it was that their name was actually Cobras! Cobras! Cobras!.
Super Furries
believe it sister!
Rammstein
Incredible live show
One of the best live experiences anyone could witness
I really dunno..
I'm looking at my last.fm and out of my top ten, only Mogwai, Tokyo Police Club, Johnny Foreigner and Bloc Party still exist. Any band's that I'd be a fanboy of (the Smiths, iForward, Russia!, This Et Al, ATDI) aren't about.
I guess I'll have to go with Grammatics, Johnny Foreigner or Brand New, when none of them has released more then 3 records (2 having only one record to their names). Sad, I know.
Fucking wait...
I'm gonna go out on a limb and the Twilight Sad. I haven't heard the new one yet, but the single is just totally awesome. So them.
if MIA was a band i'd say MIA
or MIA and her band.
let's be honest
radiohead.....even when being weird and awkward still piss all over everyone else.
i'm thinking
this 'algernon cadwallader' band or however you spell it, can't get enough of them at the moment, apart from that everyone good seems to have split up
Gonna go with
Deerhunter!
its probably Xiu Xiu
the radiohead love is baffling
reasons for it being xiu xiu
strong song writing combined with innovative sounds, devastatingly good live, and their new album title
Pet Shop Boys
If it was 1987 I'd agree with you.
I'm going for Swing Out Sister.
mm in my top 5 of all time too
.
I really like Fever Ray.
Although it's nota band per se. But I really like her at the moment.
I'm glad no-one name dropped the horrible Horrors!!!
Teenage Fanclub...
...no contest.
Cardiacs
It's still this.
It would hurt too much for me to disagree
...the words 'currently active' loom dreadfully over the discussion
HOWEVER, as a point of ACADEMIC INTRIGUE, I wonder who the 'best of the succession' is. Knifeworld? William D Drake's band? Stars In Battledress? Thumpermonkey?
Cardiacs Are Unbeatable and Irreplaceable
All the bands I've encountered that have sprung from the Cardiacs family have been uniformly brilliant. Bill Drake's stuff is astonishing, Knifeworld are indescribably good and I suggest checking out Mark Cawthra's Redbus Noface if you get a chance. They all go a little way towards filling the massive void left by Tim's departure from our lives.
no idea really...
... meaningless and arbitrary but I'd be tempted to say the best band in the world need to be at least White Denim (picked at random, not some tiny band) big... need to have released at least a couple of albums... sell records and be good live...
Sonic Youth spring to mind.
I'm sure I've said this before but ...Trail of Dead
Simple answer: Radiohead
Trail of Dead > Radiohead.
Thom's mob have to be the most nauseatingly overrated pile of monkey vomit since The Beatles.
Can't believe nobody has said The Bronx yet
Easily the best live band in the world, and I don't think they have released anything less than excellent (before the hate for II comes in)
Bands aside
I would say Actress is pretty much at the top of the electronic scene right now.
walkmen
IDST
RealEstateHousing
u r so funiii!!!!
keep it up
not sure if they are the best but
Thee Oh Sees consistently tickle my pickle with every release. no mean feat
Joy Division
No question about it for me.
:-P
Excellent Indie!
Barroness seem the most consistently great in the past few years
so I will go with them
Fugazi
for as long as the 4 of them continue to draw breath, it's Fugazi
Peppermint Apes
no contest
Threads You Have No Recollection Of Starting...
o_0
Tool
The Melvins
Wilco
Their back catagloue is now just ridiculous. An unbelievably brilliant live band too.
brilliant live, no question
but I couldn't call them the best band in the wold because for me they haven't released a great album since A Ghost Is Born. The newest one is better than the previous two, but still not up there with their work from 1999-2004.
The Who are not that well regarded here
so don't expect much support for your thread.
;-D
People saying it's Radiohead!
on current form
I'd have to say The National. No other band has been as consistently brilliant over the last 10 years, and they're not showing any signs of slowing down.
