I'm wearing body armour to their next tour - should rid the crowd of all the cosy couples there were on the most recent one ;)
First listen - 4 or 5 songs that stand out, one that seemed a bit like a dirge and never took off, and Vices, which made me jump.
Needs a bit of close attention I think - lots going on.
Also their most "experimental" album yet - obvious Sonic Youth influence in the guitar work and all the sound samples...
The sound samples aren't like Sonic Youth; they're another experimental element, like the SY-like guitar work.
Anyhow, I likes it.
Wouldn't surprise me if it's the only gig/tour played in support of Daisy in the UK
At The Bottom, You Stole and the title track stand out so far.
I think I'm going to love the entire record.
and it's marvelous. Absolutely keeps growing and growing with each listen.
Same dense/dark vibe as the TDAG but a lot more direct. Their most dynamic record yet too which is pretty exciting. He does sound a lot like Kurt in places: Vices/Be Gone esp.
Don't think it quite scales the heights of TDAG but, it's defo another evolutionary step forward for them.
I'm led to believe they'll be more dates announced around the Wembley show so I wouldn't quite write them off just yet.
but are they big enough to headline Wembley Arena?
It's fucking brilliant. A bit on an assault and of course there are a few tracks that aren't quite as good as others but there is some absolutely brilliant stuff on it. Vices, Daisy, You Stole, Gasoline and Noro are as good as anything else Brand New have done.
I couldn't help myself. And I'm not sure I can afford Wembley tickets tomorrow. Sadface.
Dunno if I want to see them at Wembley. Plus, £21.50 a ticket, along with seetickets bastard booking fee. :(
Given the type of stuff I like and the fact I love Brand New I was so excited about this but to be honest its leaving me a bit cold. Maybe it has to do with the fact it leaked at the same time as the new Twilight Sad record 'cause it just doesnt compare. I hope it grows on me though!
were tragic at Leeds on Saturday.
They sounded a bit like one of those spoof videos people do of bands on youtube. A few other bands on that day (radiohead for example) really showed up how average and workmanlike their performance was.
And Jesse got FAT.
at The Forum they were INCREDIBLE.
But yeah, Reading was a bit meh.
it was by far the biggest let down of the weekend.
but I was really drunk
When I saw Brand New at the Manc Apollo in 2007 on the Devil + God tour, they were absolutely exceptional.
When i saw them in April (i think) this year at the Manchester Academy they were horribly average and to me the new stuff sounded poor.
On Saturday at Leeds they were fucking rubbish. So so so boring and sounded terrible. The setlist choice was terrible too - I mean seriously boys come on.
Are they really playing wembley arena?
They may not have played the "hits" but they did at Manchester and looked bored as hell - they actually seemed to be enjoying themselves on Saturday (well, for Brand New's standards).
Agree the new stuff doesn't sound right live yet, especially Gasoline, but nothing about their set was "tragic".
but i'm sure they could do better. skipped it at Reading, sounds like it was a good move. I like the new record, but its the weakest of the last three... they haven't lost it exactly, it's not shit, but something is missing.
I don't really see what the problem is, it seems to be mainly that they don't play enough 'hits', which as far as I'm concerned is absurd, they're Brand New not Oasis. They're fucking blistering live, Jesse's vocals lately have been just incredible, they were ALWAYS gonna be underwhelming at Reading due to being on at 4pm on the fucking Main Stage, where EVERYONE sounds shit, especially in the day.
Anyway. Rant over.
Daisy is actually incredible though, so fucking heavy in parts, a really good progression as I knew it would be. Not sure I'll see them at Wembly cos it's just too big I reckon.
I thought they were brilliant at Leeds, good setlist, and the new album is class. People moaned when tgad came out, they were wrong. Same here.
but I think it was kind of intentional and I liked it a lot. Crowd wasn't great though.
'Vices' is one of the best openers of the year.
Didn't watch them at Reading this year as they were mind numbingly dull last time they played
but from i have heard the new album doesnt sound very good at all.
I agree that it's a good natural progression from TDAG
this is their 'in utero'
but after 10+ listens its my least fav album so far
This album is by far their worst. I am extremely disappointed with it after multiple listens. There is nothing interesting in any part of any song. The whole album sounds incredibly lazy. It sounds as if they just decided to record 11 more songs because they wanted to release another album, not because they had any interesting ideas
It's a joke thread. Hahahaha and such.
I feel the same after a couple of listens. It's their least commercial sounding album, that's for sure.
