I reckon this needs a thread of its own. Im obsessed with this album.
Will probably be in my top 5 records at the end of the year :D
Really looking forward to hearing it.
here is a mix they did for fact anyway its pretty cool
yer missing out if you dont got the album yet.
really good introduction if you're thinking about whether you want to pay for the album or not. Some other great stuff on it too - very consistent, enjoyable mix.
It's pretty good, not amazing, but pretty good nonetheless.
like, maybe, "reasonably".
the one with the little globe on the cover.
If it's average then by what set are you comparing this observation to? If it's average, it is in a qualitative sense "ok" or "neither wholly good or bad". So what extremes are we to compare it? We need a set of data to find an average with cases of extremes and qualities that are shared between each observation which identify them as a set.
ANYWAY, I'm really enjoying the album - it feels very soulful and nocturnal in mood and the minimalistic instrumentation is pleasant too. I really don't think I can compare it to anything I've heard recently and that is refreshing. I think it could certainly be one of my personal favourites for 2009 too.
a bit boring but clearly not shit.
it's just there and then it goes away.
i'm on listen one and will have at least two more tries at it, there's got to be more to this record than unambitious bland bedroom murmurs.
But I think I'll keep going back to it a lot - I'm already picking out a lot of stuff I didn't notice first time round. Its obviously very mellow and slow but there's a lot going on. Would definitely recommend it.
I like the 80's guitar influence-they've pared it back instead of overdoing it. Only slight qualm is the male vocals at points, which are bordering on chart r'n'b badness. But the two vocalists still compliment each other well.
Also, the second track sounds like Darklands era JAMC, but stripped down. Which is no bad thing.
first couple of times i heard it, it didn't really sink and and i thought it was fairly average. a few more listens and it's in my top 5 albums of the year - absolutely great.
Geraldine isn't a bad track and XX have done very well with a very similar catchy melody.
Really interesting mix of members too
because of this thread.
Yes, it's good :)
