Tago Mago (1971)
Ege Bamyasi (1972)
Future Days (1973)
Apparently this is classed as there 'classic period' before Damo Suzuki left, I've not really explored the later stuff..
Soon Over Babaluma is very good to fantastic. The later stuff I have heard isn't as good.
Basically the rule of thumb is that as soon as Damo Suzuki jumped ship they went a bit rubbish. The earlier stuff with Malcolm Mooney is great though,
Soon Over Babaluma is really fucking good and it hasn't got Damo on it.
or Monster Movie. Then if you like those move on to Tago Mago (more 'crazy' Can) and Future Days (more 'ambient' Can).
I'd say Ege Bamyasi over Monster Movie though as Monster Movie doesn't have Damo Suzuki.
But maybe cos it's the only one I actually own as when I've heard tago mago I've been impressed
Was the first I got, and its probably still my favourite out of the 3 I own (also have ege bamyasi and future days).
then get Ege Bamyasi and Future Days.
Is pretty awesome too. I'm more of a fan of the stuff Damo did but this album still blows me away even just for The Thief.
Ege Bamyasi is good, but Tago Mago is wilder.
Future Day is my favourite, simply for incredible title track, it's pure improvisational ambient spacerock.
But you can't go wrong with Tago Mago and Ege Bamyasi.
Another good starting point is Cannabilism 1 which is a great anthology and contains Mother Sky (from Soundtrack) - the track The Horrors beautifully ripped off with Sea Within A Sea.
Truly exceptional band - and one whose influence is ever present in today's big hitters.
with what the average reply seems to be and say either Tago Mago or Ege Bamyasi. I started with Tago Mago myself, pretty much purely because it seems to be the most often mentioned and it has the - absolute - 'Mushroom' on it.
