Would eve go so far as to say that it's pretty decent.
one and the fly are just utter genius.
not too fussed on the recent material, but they were absolutely incredible. so so so good. you are in for a treat.
pop is a good album as is all that you cant leave behind.
here is the setlist.............
it's a bit of a guilty pleasure as U2 are an oft-derided band, but i think it's a brilliant record. there's not a track on it that i don't like (love, even). definitely a band at the top of their game. it's a bit of an anomaly for me, as i wasn't interested in anything they did after this, save for the odd track, and have only a casual interest in their earlier material.
Unforgettable Fire - 9/10.
At least Stay on that album was good. After that I tuned out. Achtung Baby is pretty damn good though.
it's quite atmospheric and love the song with Johnny Cash at the end, perfect album ending.
so U2 are highly unfashionable now but think back to this dark Berlin period.
Right from the opening 'WTF?' intro of 'Zoo Station' through to the trio of songs that close the album on a cold, bleak note, this album is a stone-cold masterpiece of dark, sexy music with truly decent lyrics and great musicianship. They will never be this good again, but however big and popular their copyists/wannabes get (Killers, Coldplay, Kings of Leon) they will never get close to matching this. Agreed?
But replacing "stone-cold masterpiece" with 'very good album'.
'The Joshua Tree' does really start to lose ground after 'Bullet The Blue Sky'. Very weak second half. If it's their best ever seller (can't be arsed to look this up) it really doesn't deserve to be and is the record-buying public compensating for how really fucking good 'The Unforgettable Fire' was (the record-buying public do this a lot - I hate the record-buying public). 'War' is a start-to-finish 'very good album' too, not sure it's a classic though. But 'Achtung Baby' - where is the trough in that? I'd say it has no bad tracks... You can pick out every wasn't-a-single track like 'Until The End Of The World', 'Ultra Violet' and 'Acrobat' and they're all really strong in their own right.
They went away on new year's eve '89 to 'dream it all up again' and *did just that*. I still say it's the best re-invention in the history of rock. Up there with Bowie's Berlin era certainly.
they are so good, how can people hate them so much? I'm not so much a fan of recent stuff (anything since the release of the Electrical Storm single with the exception of a select few tracks from Vertigo) but the old stuff is just epic.
Yep. Its still a towering edifice of beauty.
Don't care what you say about Bone or the '2.
is also good.
Dark, emotive and sounds bloody brilliant. U2 still know how to knock out good albums but this was the band at its creative peak, both musically and stylistically - the Zoo TV tour seemed to have set standards in stadium concerts. The Fly also knocked Bryan Adams off the No.1 spot, which was most welcome!
