Just found out apparently new album next year. Anyone still interested?
Weren't even good in 2003. Alright...maybe just 'Last Night.'
weren't even good in 2003? room on fire is a great album!! you were 10/11 when "is this it" was out so you can be forgiven.
Got me into them after Lamacq played it. I really couldn't understand why they had to slow it down so much that it just drags itself along like a dog with no legs on a leash.
I'm looking very forward to Julian Casablancas' solo album. He is so cool.
I am looking foward to their new stuff I must say and to Casablancas solo album. Think i'll always have a lot of love for them.
but First Impressions of Earth fell off a cliff in its second half, stick to 35 minute albums guys! First two albums are still great in my opinion anyway.
Still amazing. Is This It? is one of the best albums I own, always felt that Room On Fire is vastly underrated too. I really enjoyed the first half of First Impressions, yes it tails off toward the end but it's by no means a shit album - had You Only Live Once stuck in my head all day yesterday. New stuff should be interesting, quite like the solo stuff they did/are doing.
in a recent(ish) thread here, all bar two people (myself and one other) rated Room On Fire as equal to, if not better than Is This It.
I think First Impressions is the underrated one, heaps better than RoF (imo) -- more energetic, more varied, more catchy. And the first three songs is acesome! I agree that it would be better if it were two, three, even four songs shorter, but I don't know which ones I'd drop.
Looking forward to hearing the new stuff.
Bit samey ever since, though not as good.
both times I saw them live. Admittedly both shows were after the atrocity that was their third album. They were terrible, really bored/boring.
I remember being very excited about getting their first album (for my 14th birthday, if I recall correctly), and even then being slightly disappointed. Still like NYC Cops and Hard To Explain, fucking great songs.
In themselves they'll probably be looked back on as overrated, but they impact they had was, and still is, very very important.
Started at the summit then fell rapidly to the point where they offer almost nothing at all.
I shan't write them off, though. They're still a band I 'd make an effort to hear new stuff by.
It was just amazingly good. Judging by the time theyve had off id hope they'd come back refreshed and refocused and make a cracker. id hope so anyway
But I sort of wish they'd split up before they make any more albums and ruin themselves. That third one was the worst £11 I ever spent. I hope I never hear the songs off it again.
one great album, one good album, and one third of a good album.
I am still interested to hear what they put out next...
The second 6 monthly
The Third Rarely
in Leeds city center, just before getting on a National Express coach home from Leeds Festival. I stuck it in my Discman and hammered it for the entire 7 hour journey home. I've never fallen in love with an album so quickly - the songs were so instant, like I'd know them my entire life.
I realise that I've left myself wide open for Television and Tom Petty -related punchlines with my last few words there thankyouverymuch.
A band with everything. Looks, attitude, charisma, most importantly, CHOONS.
Saved us all from Satan's power (nu metal).
Everything anyone wears in your average indie bar/club is directly influenced by them.
Of course I'm looking forward to it. Without them, good music would be dead as fuckin fried chicken.
listen to Is This It every month or so, still excellent
not sure I was expecting that. Just listened to is this it. Looking forward to the new album, hopefully return to earlier form.
because, despite all the hype, IS THIS IT was, and remains, one of the greatest debut albums ever made
