I think 'delightful' is my one word review.
Just as I expected.
Funny how, now they have a record that better captures their live sound, the older tunes might just have edged it. Little Brother, On a Neck, On a Spit, and Colorado were all immense.
But the Veckatimest material was lush, too. I Live With You, While You Wait For the Others were all immense.
Only two down notes. Cheerleader just ain't the same without the choir. And no All We Ask? :-( Better play it at Green Man, s'all I'm saying....
Can't wait to see them again on Thursday at Pukkelpop
Full marks for trying to play I Live With You live, I didn't think this would be a song in the live set. It's whet my appetite for that show in October with the orchestra...
That threatens to be stupid good.
other underwhelming bits where it all just got a bit lost and fuzzy i thought. very good overall though!
'average' has been re-defined.
Rossen's lead-vocal-songs saved them, just.
how did foreground not give you chills? Do you even have a soul? I'm guessing you weren't even there
Eds voice live > Dan's voice live
Having not seen them before, I was intrigued to see how their intricate sound would translate into a live show. Was glad to see it work rather well and, dare I say it, they even rocked at times. Super.
did anyone else get pissed off with people talking the whole way through? maybe it was just where i was standing. During the sublime quiet bits i just found myself getting angrier with the people around me. Otherwise i thought the band were amazing, they had really stepped up since they were last in the UK, much more confidence and use of dynamics, i love their vocal harmonies.
didn't notice anyone talking. Seemed really hushed to me.
Sad face. I'm seeing them at Green Man anyway, so all is not lost?
Did they play Knife? It was the most sublime thing I heard at ATP by a mile.
it was nice and all, but for me it was one of the less extraordinary performances of the evening
After Sean was underwhelmed by The National at RFH, it's my turn to scratch my head at a New York band and think "Was it just me?"
It was only during Wait For The Others and On A Spit that they were anything like as magical on record.
Or, to be fair - they sounded good, but the lack of charisma, excitement and anything other than shuffling meekness bored me.
I wasn't expecting explosions and confetti, just a different enough experience not to make me think "I could have had more fun playing the albums at home."
And, no, I wasn't one of the people talking all the way through.
JohnEarls sounds like he should be at a Flaming Lips concert. Grizzly Bear live. IS. Fucking. EPIC. No need rock star swagger when the execution was so good.
i really enjoyed it despite some idiots talking in the audience. However i remember seeing Animal Collective at The Forum earlier this year and being a bit bored despite everyone else seeming to love it.
was waaaaaaaaaay better than Animal Collective at The Forum, I was also really bored at the AC gig and I adored GB's performance last night.
can't wait for the Barbican gig
It was the last song.
and stunning. I'd put it up there with Fleet Foxes earlier in the year.
they were very good, though there ATP performance was better.
When I was watching them last night, I thought it was pretty weird how they have been caught up in the whole hipster thing. There are cooler looking bands than Grizzly Bear, and they certainly don't look like one for whom looks is the most important thing
..they also had amazing lights that supported the whole atmoshpere, plus Koko was the perfect venue for this gig in my opinion. 10/10.
sad that Beach House coudn't come though :(( .
