I'd probably replace Bill Callahan with Tortoise as I hadn't seen them before. But I don't think I disliked any performance as such. Not being able to leave the arena once your in that night is still a bastard though.
Deerhunter, MBV, A Place to Bury Strangers, Forest Fire (@ Le Palais), Dominique A and Grizzly Bear.
Crystal Stilts were good but wasted at 7.15pm in the Breton countryside with bright sunshine in front on 300 or so bored Frenchies.
Deerhunter's set was rather great huh
Thought watching Dominique A felt like trying to eat your way out of a binbag of shit...was like a suck-a-thon..
That venue in town had REALLY comfortable seats but when we saw Telepathe and GGD there, they were all backlit, which was a bit odd.
I forgot to eat Moules. :(
Deerhunter one above, links to others at the bottom of the deerhunter page.
but are they like the whole sets? Blimey if so.
The Deerhunter one comes in at around 50 mins which is about right. You wouldn't get 50 mins of Deerhunter on BBC2.
There's an Atlas Sound exclusive session done at RdR with new tracks somewhere on the link below but not watched it yet.
deerhunter, tortoise, snowman, the present, camera obscura, peaches, four tet, gang gang dance, bill callahan.
not so good- crystal stilts, a place to bury strangers, forest fire, grizzly bear.
need those palais seats in my place.
Went over to Dinard on the boat bus thing and was knackered.
i liked the look of this year. will consider next time. what was the general atmosphere like and how were the crowds? is it pretty chilled out? the audience at deerhunter look fucking catatonic, aside from a few right at the front! quite a contrast between this and their primavera show a few months back.
as an aside, i hope deerhunter vary their set a bit in the uk next week. love them as i do, they seem to be working within quite narrow parameters on this tour (at least from what i've seen/heard). guess this could be their 'festival set'.
although it was lively at the front for four tet and simian mobile disco.
the palais isn't conducive to a rowdy atmosphere with those comfy seats, but there was dancing at the end of telepathe and ggd.
the campsite is a bit too nutty for my liking, loads of pissed up kids being shouty all hours.
I was down the front for Deerhunter and had some 17 yr old french girls yelling along to all the songs. Couldn't believe it. Also stood next to a French bloke in a DH diamond t-shirt. From where I was standing they were all loving it. It was a pretty chilled weekend; it's a small festival - only 6000 or so punters. It's nice to be able to go to the beach in the daytime or do some tourism - I went to Dinard on the boat and to Rennes on the train.
Stay in a hotel if you can - so worth it. The campsite looked very basic with just one or two foodstalls and some loos. I'm getting old though.
