I may well buy one when I head to lunch.
The last one's great and open Seasons a bit meh with some really good songs
In answer to your query. Buy them all, including Man of Aran soundtrack.
I've not heard the Man of Arran Soundtrack.
The first one is quite raw and pixies-esque the others are a lot more polished
Closely followed by The Decline of British Sea Power.
By some distance I think. Rock Music starts brilliantly but fades second half. Open Music is very patchy - a couple of great tunes but otherwise very bland by their standards. Man Of Aran is good to work to.
unquestionably their best. Its the rawest and most difficult to get into but the rewards are vast. The penultimate track 'Lately' is an absolutely superb song clocking in at fourteen minutes - I urge you to buy this album.
This is not to say the other two are bad - far from it, they are more polished and more conventional and just dont scale the heights the same as 'Decline...'
Agreed with the Decline of British Sea Power. and I second the recommendation of 'Lately'
open season is the easiest listen, do you like rock music has the biggest tunes, the decline of... is one of the most awkwardly lovable records i've ever heard
have listened to man of aran on spotify but never seen them do that live, and with the other stuff they've soundtracked live it helps if you're actually watching the film at the same time
But of course I'm a BSP fan-boy.
General consensus will no doubt be The Decline of British Sea Power... and yeah, that's probably true.
They're all subtly different from each other, but all pretty great in their own right
I remember seeing them live when this first came out and they were amazing live. I really like the other two releases proper, however they do seem to lack a bit of the energy of this first release. They're all worth a pun though really, and if you like one there'll at least be parts of another one that you'll enjoy. Not listened to Man of Aran yet, turns out it's on spotify so gonna give it a go now...
Decline of... = 10/10 (amazing album)
Open Season = 7/10 (worth getting for Be Gone, True Adventures, North Hanging Rock and The Land Beyond)
Rock Music = 8/10 (good album, some of their best songs on it, also a couple of weaker ones)
...others are worth checking out in time though, I couldn't choose between Open Season and DYLRM?, but both great. Man of Aran is good, but not as a stand alone 'music' album - watch it on the DVD that comes with the CD and it'll make more sense :)
An accidental click. What does it even me? I see you've done it too..I've started a trend?
Whaddya get hip_young_gunslinger, hmmmmmm?? Thoughts if listened to yet?
but Open Season ia maaassively underrated, for reasons I don't quite understand. DYLRM? is great, apart from the stupid bookending tracks and the shit name and shit cover art, which is a disgrace given the distinctive and beautiful theme they had going for all their previous covers.
