I truly love Bloc Party (first album at least) and I have always loved early Simple Minds. Always thought that Simple Minds were massively underrated -- no doubt owing to their change in sound following the departure of Forbes.
Am I alone in thinking that Sons & Fascination is one of the best post-punk records? I rate it even over anything that Joy Division put out, and only slightly less than the albums that made up The Cure's original "trilogy".
though I never really think (to think) of it as an album as such.
actually my fav is New Gold Dream, but anything before is class too.
i.e. Sparkle in the Rain, "Don't You Forget About Me" and even Once Upon a Time (and, today, I'd probably count NGD as the transition between their post-punk experimentalism and their stadium rock sound). I've got no real desire to listen to those again today — maybe Sparkle — but I didn't hate them at the time, even though I never rated them anywhere near as highly as the earlier stuff.
It was Street Fighting Years that really ended our relationship, plus the fact that when they toured that album they didn't play any pre-NGD material, not even "Love Song". Never bought an album since, though was tempted to give B&W a listen. Anyone know what the new one is like?
